Gulbis keeps it going.

I've been waiting and tipping this for 2 years - and hes finally putting together a run at a slam. Great player if you get to see him.

4th round encounter is to be Llodra or Boleli - either of which is a challenge but i think he has a good chance. I'm for him to get to the QF though, because the match up would see him take Djoko on. They both have aggressive hard court games and on clay if Gulbis plays the way he can, it could be fireworks.

Certainly a work-out for Djoko. If this match comes to pass, its my tip for 'unexpected' entertaining match of the tourny, so keep an eye out if you can.

----

Gulbis through confortably against Llodra - Djoko looking good - watch this QF. If Gulbis does not fail himself, it could be the pick of the QF's

_____

Just updating again - I'm going to watch this match and try to update the score here regularly with any interesting action

In the mean time for those of you who don't know much about Gulbis, i found this interview regarding the upcoming QF - i think the interviewess took a liking to him:

uk.eurosport.yahoo.com/video...

Contrast his demeanor with Murrays - his game is more focussed around power, but certainly has much of Murrays variety - certainly has more dimensions on display than Djoko's

I've been plugging this match for a while now and will gladly eat my words if i'm wrong, but i'm expecting Gulbis to strongly test Djoko here.

Great stuff from Gulbis today. Shame his nerves got the better off him in the tie-break of the 2nd set. Looks like Djoko will be really tired after this and easier prey for Nadal than last time cool

Well it is good from Gulbis - Djoko though showing that his B game can win matches - some quality there then.

I think Gulbis has given Djoko a match though - certainly asking many many questions along the way. I was worried Gulbis may not turn up, but certainly in the 2nd set i think we got a glimpse of a future top 10 player with all-court potential

Thanks Tom! I definitely will catch up the replay later. Gulbis is now officialy another of my favourite player. He must have saved at least 10 break points in the first set- that's quite something against top 3. ok

Gulbis breaks back at the death -

then chucks it..

Very good test for Djoko. Djoko will have to improve massively it seems to beat the green one.

Weak_Era, thanks a lot! I think Ernests should hold his head up high though- he's only young and the way he's progressed in this tournament is just fantastic, as he seemed to have gone down a bit since last USO. I noticed he's improved on the backhand side, and that serve has definitely been cilcking. He's earned himself a lot of friend, that I'm sure of.

3 sets and Djoko takes it.

Good grind from Djoko you have to say - hes not happy with himself, but casts a seriously relieved shadow as has walks off court.

As for he match in general Gulbis will be sad not to take a set - but that inconsistency cost the first and maybe lack of experience under extreme pressure cost the 2nd set. You have to say in the rallies it was Gulbis who dictated things, producing 82 winners each, but 60UE's to Djokos 36. Serving too, Gulbis 12 aces to 6, 7dfs to 1 though (he goes for his 2nd serve, which is good to see).

Gulbis can take heart though that when facing 16 break points he only lost 4 of them. Whilst taking 2 of 6 he forced on Djoko's serve.

Commentators had it right when saying that Gulbis is 2 years behind Djoko and is somewhat of a a scary prospect when you consider how he could play if his game improves at a similar rate

Good variety from gulbis too - winning 22of 35 net approaches - not bad for clay

Gulbis is certainly not 80th in the world based on his FO performance.

One to watch at the other slams?

Forgot to mention match time of 3h 7min completes the story - Djoko may need his rest

i think and hope he could be dangerous at wimbledon with his serve, and unlike a few others didn't seem to have any problems moving on grass, so i think he could be a big threat there
