We need to steer clear of O'Shea at centre half. He's barely a full-back. Simply wouldn't have him on the pitch. A need to test/blood the likes of Celtic's O'Dea and/or Bolton's J O'Brien in that position. Simply no-one else out there at the moment.

Poor game had by most. Should have been dead and buried by half time but only for Kiely.

We obviously have a much stronger team in waiting, particularly in midfield. Still a need to find a top class centre half to slot in beside Dunne...maybe Puyol feels like switching allegiances!

Forget about the goal!!

Colombia did much more to win and deserved the victory!! Some interesting things things on the Irish team but Colombia was much more dynamic and did not seem to make much effort to outplay the Irish

Most of the time the Irish had 10 defenders,,,,they was what their game was about, hanging from the goal most of the time.

A much more enjoyable game but the central midfield was very poor.

How does O'Shea do for you lads?
------------------
Bring back Steve Finnan!

Hopeless and it's a great pity
He was brilliant at United in first year

Perfect example of a player being played on club reputation...

At least with McShane you see heart and courage.
O'Shea is not aggressive enough for me...

It was more of an auto goal by the Colombians themselves than an Irish one.

Colombia could have won 2 or 3 nil

I see it like this... In the past, there were very many games which the Irish dominated until the last few minutes and then let in a goal or two and lost or did not qualify or both! I would prefer to play complete garbage and win than dominate and lose... Look at the crap the Germans have been throwing out for years and still manage to get to finals etc. I think the solution might be to go back to Big Jacks lousey style, at least we'll have some good moments! But the big point is that a win is a win and that is all that counts, Ireland has lost too many games just like that which the brave Colombians did two days ago! ... If the Referee had given the penalty for the foul on McGeady, there would have been less to say here. They were better, but we also had chances and who is clinical enough for the single moments usually win!

I watched the game the other night and was happy with the win. Colombia were the better side and if it weren't for Dean Kiely, Ireland would have lost by three or four. The positives that came out of the game were the performances of Dean Kiely, Damian Delaney, John O'Shea, Andy Keogh and Aiden McGeady. Indeed Delaney performances from the two friendlies give us hope that the problem left back position may be solved.
However, I think that players like Liam Miller and Glenn Whelan have shown that they aren't good enough at this level. If Trappatoni can convince the likes of Finnan and Ireland to return, Ireland have a potential lineup of:
Given
Finnan, Dunne, O'Shea, Delaney
McGeady, Ireland, Steven Reid, Duff
Keane, Doyle
That isn't a bad team at all and should be capable of challenging Italy and Bulgaria for qualification.
