swimmer84 (U9384570) posted Jun 10, 2008 The womens 4x200 has a massive chance of a medal. With Jo Jackson and Rebecca Adlington both posting 1.56s recently and a bunch of girls capable of 1.57-1.58s, it'll be an exciting event!

E4_lution (U2939918) posted Jun 13, 2008 I wouldn't use the world championships as a reliable benchmark of progress, Team GB always do well at the short course champs, owing to the short course culture of UK swimming, we have had numerous world champions/record holders over the years in the short course events who have been unable to step it up to the 50m pools. Also don't underestimate the impact the missing American's had on Manchester...

Tancock has never 'bottled it' at any stage of his swimming, and he's a big meet competitor. Always has been & this is the stage for him. This is what it's all been about. GOOOOOOOOO LIAM !!!!!

clarke_j (U11501830) posted Jun 23, 2008 Difficult to say where the medals will come from at this stage. US trials will provide some insight. Certainly UK swimmers ought to be competitive and reach finals but it is a big ask to medal. Tancock has a shot but must be considered an outsider for me. The German fella broke the European record recently and factor in the Americans and that means that Tancock will be struggling. Potentially has better chance at 200IM but here again he has to beat Phelps, Lochte and Cseh and I can't see it myself. The women's 200 relay is strong but again, are they really going to beat the US, the Australians, the Dutch and the Germans? My guess is that our best bet is Adlington in the 800 free who should medal and may start as favourite depending on Hoff and Manadou's programmes. The only other solid bet for me is the womens' medley relay who should take bronze behind US and Aus. Others that are in with a shout include Miley, Davies, Tancock, Adlington again, Lowe, Simmonds and the womens' 4x2. All should make the finals and be in the top 6 and I suppose a couple will potentially rise to the occasion. Nevertheless, in each case there are evidently at least one or two swimmers who have gone faster this year before the Americans have even had their trials.
