Marc Warren has got it all, remains to be seen how he copes over the next three or four years but there is great hope for him.

Alastair Forsyth is having a good season and Lloyd Saltman could yet prove to be a star.

Scottish golf fans have been spoilt with the successes of Sandy Lyle and Colin Montgomerie and to a lesser extent Sam Torrance. Guess we need to be patient.

I see Peter Whiteford moving up the Celtic Manor leaderboard.

I've followed his progress via the incentive of the world-famous goldwolf Fantasy League and am interested how you all think he'll develop.

'Hold the front page'
Five Scots qualified in Wales, only two less than a big country like France.
Wales Open! does this mean Loch Lomond will now be the Scots Open?

when you look at how many englishmen are in the worlds elite at the moment its pretty sad that the country that invented the game do not have any top players whatsoever!
montgomerie....dont make me laugh!
forsith....probably the best of a bad bunch.!
lyle...great player in his day,but was he really scottish?
torrance....big bag of journeyman wind!
paul lawrie...actaually thought he was a better player than many suggested.open win became a noose around his neck however!

England are producing so many good young players due to the change of attitude by the EGU in the early 1990's. They introduced the Golf Starter Centres and put forward a progressive attitude towards attracting young people to the sport.
The Starter Centres shook up a lot of the established clubs who found out they were lacking in basic practice facilities and junior progression methods.
Scotland in general has many golf courses per head of population but VERY poor practice facilities and golf ranges and at club level desperately poor progression methods.
Monty got slated in the Scottish press when he said Scotland was 10 to 15 years behind England but he was spot on.
The SGU and SLGA do a decent job but are stuck with poor funding budgets for Juniors.
The R&A should perhaps look a bit closer to home when supporting juniors.
But the biggest culprits are the clubs who are generally run by selfish old men and women who lack the wits to safeguard the sport they have enjoyed.

We've had plenty of good Juniors and Amateurs in Scotland in recent years but they don't seem to be able to make the step up. It's early days in their professional careers but two of our best prospects, Lloyd Saltman and Richie Ramsay, have made indifferent starts and are playing on the Asian Tour and Challenge Tour respectively.

Perhaps more of our players should go on golf scholarships in the States as it seems to have worked for some of the English players (Casey and Donald are two that spring to mind).

There are no really young Scots on the European Tour. Whiteford is in his late 20s and will do well to regain his card for next season. Warren is a similar age and is a great talent when on top form but he's hardly made a cut this year. Forsyth is now 32 but is our most consistent golfer and is currently Scottish number 1. Gallacher has been going backwards in the past two or three years and I think Orr and Lawrie's best days are behind them.

It's not great being a Scottish golf fan at the moment - apart from Forsyth's good spell a couple of months ago there have barely been any Scots in contention in tournaments.

QUESTION FOR THE CLUB GOLFERS?

Do you allow your club juniors with a handicap[minimum 18 boys,36 girls] to play in all of your club competitions.....if not ...why not?
