My Analysis on the Managers...

Premier League Chelsea
comment on the article

So there has been a lot of names mentioned and a lot of us Chelsea fans cant seem to see eye to eye on who should be our next manager. So far i think these are the main contenders for the spot -

- Rijkaard
- Deschamps
- Scolari
- Hughes
- Mancini

I would put Hiddink in there but I think he will sing the contract he's been offered, I also dont see Abramovich taking him away from his nations team when hes done so well for them.

Rijkaard -
My personal favourite for the job. He's proven to be able to win both domestically and in Europe, winning La Liga twice and the Champions League once. Had a great spell before that with the Netherlands getting to the semi's of Euro but losing on penalties, many pundits saying they were playign the best football throughout the tournament. He can attract decent players to our club and I also notice that hes ratehr good at implementing some youth into the team which is always a good thing. He will also most definitely bring in that attacking football which the board and owner crave.
However past two season especially the last hasn't been very good for him, started off well this season but faltered, got to semi's in Champions league which isn't incredibly bad. His man management isnt the best however Henk Ten Cate I think fills this gap in, btu will they work together again?

Deschamps -
Former chelsea player, has doen well with Juventus getting them back into serie A. Has said he could bring in the attacking football but not sure if thats a cert. Sounds like he could rally the team together quite well. Not really proven himself as a top manager yet in england or in Europe.

Scolari -
Well experienced manager. Could easily manage chelsea and keep the team in order. Won the world cup with Brazil. Quite a tactical manager, not sure about his style of play. Also what has he won at club level as a manager? There is also the problem of him being in Euro 08, I personally think we need to bring the manager in ASAP especially one that is from the Continent or abroad as they will need more time to adjust and make plans.

Hughes -
Another former chelsea player as well as a childhood supporter of our lovely club. Im a bit unsure on him, on the one hand i think he would be passionate about the club and be incredibly motivated, he would keep the team in order well and motivate them however on the other hand he hasn't managed a team as big as chelsea and hasnt ever won a trophy with a club. His style of play is also questionable, Blackburns style isn't too great IMO and cant be quite aggressive at times. still 2nd favourite for me.

Mancini -
I think he is bottom of the pile personally. Yes he has done well domestically for Inter but you could say thats because of all the things that have happened to series A over the past years, competition has vanished and you shouldn't really struggle to win it, after all its only between the two Milan clubs. He also doesn't seem to perform well in the Champions league....continued

To Puddlestinker.
With all respect mate, most of yor points do not make much sense.
I understand that everyone now is feeling the pains for Avram Grant but let's face it: nobody gave him a 1p coin for his value when he turned up at the blues (let alone when he got appointed). Also he is not at all popular. When he started with the mind games in the end of the season, it was laughable. Let's face it, he is gone because you cannot lose THREE finals. Gives the impression you simply crack in the end when it really matters. Added to the fact that nobody warmed up to him until he departed, not a surprise. I do not like the treatment but I am sure I am not alone in wondering sometimes during the league whether he was actually alive at all with his dark eyes, pale skin and attitudes. When we got the 2x1 against United and he fell on his knees, I rather thought that he was having a heart attack rather than celebrate.
I do not like Rijkaard. I feel he will not have strenght with the team and it was easy to win the Spanish league when Real was in turmoil. When they picked it up momentum, Barcelona ended up 3rd and he P-45'd.
My favorites are Mancini, Deschamps and Hughes (in any order). Good experience, good charisma and able to build good teams. Please note that Hughes done wonders with the money he has and the players he's got. Remember: Sparky manages Blackburn now, not Liverpool or Arsenal. With what he's got he's done wonders.

You guys don't watch La Liga.
Rijkaard a good coach? Don't make me laugh.
- Only used one tactic: 4-3-3. If things went wrong, he never changed that and that causes Barcelona to lose a lot of times.
- He was successful when he went there because he got the best Deco who put the tactics on the field, and let the front 3 play. When Deco was not in good shape, Barcelona struggled. When he came back against Manchester United, you saw a good team again, even though they had lost like 15 points in their last 10 games in La liga before.
- Did you ever see anyone in Barcelona crossing? Their game was based on Ronaldinho and Messi having the ball and doing something with it. Ronnie at his best could really do amazing things. Lately, that has proven not a good tactic.
- How can a manager that has Eto'o, Henry and Messi allow his team to score so few goals? Why didn't Henry start in Manchester?
- He doesn't impose discipline. That caused players like Ronaldinho, Marquez, Motta, to name a few, to literally stop training.
- Even in the Champions League final against Arsenal, they only managed to score 2 goals in the last 30 min., after playing against a 10 men team, and after Henry missing many 1 on 1. The same in London, when del Horno was sent off.
- 2 seasons without any title with the team Barcelona has, even without Ronaldinho, is a proof of how bad Rijkaard is. He was even under Villarreal this year.
- If you want to take the risk and bring him to Chelsea, I am afraid this is the end of the line sadface Chelsea need a manager that can assure a title next season. It was a terrible blow not to win a title this year, and it cannot happen again if Chelsea are to get/keep top players.

And I would like to add one thing:
STOP all the crap about attacking football. The press used that to kill Chelsea, but I haven't seen so many critics with United's game against Barcelona or in the final, where they didn't want to take any risk. And why? Because the important thing is to win trophies. That is how a club becomes big. Chelsea will not expect to be loved by everybody, because they win. The ones that should love Chelsea are Chelsea fans. The others must surrender if Chelsea wins titles.
I do miss Mourinho there.

We've heard and seen all the contenders so far for CFC but what about Steve Clark for the running. I heard back along that he wants to leave the Club - why because he wants to be a Manager in his own right. Why not let him be Chelsea'a Manager. I am sure he would have the backing from the players. He is well liked and knows the players well and backroom staff. And as a player himself was brilliant. What about it?

I think Roman Abramovitch should manage the team. He seems to know best apparantly!

Benfiquista you read the game correctly, Frank's team is based on key players and it is as simple as that. I also feel you regarding your comment that he could find it difficult controlling the boys at Chelsea, this was the case in Barca with the likes of Eto and Ronny.

The one guy who I think should be considered though is Zico even though the guy likes to keep a low profile. Look at what he is achieving in Turkey with the resources available to him. I think if he came to Chelsea he would play the kind of football Roman craves for and will also attract some very exciting talent from Europe and South America.

There has certainly been a lot of speculation as to the next Chelsea manager. Talk of Sven seems to have gone quiet though. Any bets that he is top of Roman's shopping list?

Whoever Chelsea have as their next manager one thing is for sure, he will get unbelieveble amounts of transfer funds followed by the sack!

Thats garunteed... Quite simply failure and your out... one season is clearly enough for the people in the boardroom (or romans yaught) and if you fail to land the main two then good-night!

As a Liverpool fan i felt quite sorry for Avram Grant in the way he was treated but he did not help himself.. he was clearly not a Jose Mourinho and his tactics were alot to be desired.

However if Chelsea get the right man then they have to give him some time (2 seasons minimum) to turn things around.

As fun as the job sounds (in the fact you can almost sign any player you need) the pressure and the employers make it a job i would not want.

Good luck to whoever gets it... cause boy... your going to need it!

Crownhouse et all: please do NOT mention Zico!! He is disgracefull. the main reason why Brazil did not win France98 (forget Ronaldo's fit... you haven't seen the inside of the situation) He never won anything even as a player apart form Toyota Cup 1983 gainst Liverpool. As a player he was magic but unlucky to the extreme. As manager, he is absolutelly garbage. Any Brazilian can prove that.
The best options for me still lie with Deschamps, Hughes or Mancini. thes rest linked to our club are not good to be on the list. Even Big Phil, Toyaota Cup Champion with Gremio, World Champion with Brazil and again runner up to Manchester United on the Toyota Cup with Palmeiras in 1999 (for the ones that complained he did not have club CV)
