David Haye versus...

Heavy
comment on the article

...???

I am sure that we are all eagerly awaiting the announcement of Haye's next opponent.

The overwhelming consensus is that Haye's first outing at Heavyweight (save for the the Tomascz Bonin bout) will be against former WBC, IBF, and IBO champion *HASIM RAHMAN* [45(36)-6(4)-2], who of course has beaten and been beaten by our very own Lennox Lewis. Indeed Haye-Rahman was the fight that was strongly mooted before Haye decided to stay at Cruiser for one last fight against Enzo Maccarinelli.

Just our of interest, if Rahman fails to bite, or if the bout fails to transpire for some other reason, who would be a similarly credible opponent for Haye?

*JOHN RUIZ* [43(29)-7(1)-1]

The former WBA champion, who has beaten Rahman in the past, would also provide Haye with an excellent first scalp at Heavyweight should the Londoner prove victorious. However, having won a WBC-eliminator against Jameel McCline last time out, and also standing first in line to fight the winner of Ruslan Chagaev-Nicolay Valuev for the WBA strap, would Ruiz really put it all on the line against the dangerous Haye?

*SHANNON BRIGGS* [48(42)-5(2)-1]

The former WBO champion would probably prove quite easy to tempt back into the ring, having been inactive for a year now, and would provide a stern test of Haye's chin in at Heavyweight.

***

So... Hasim Rahman, John Ruiz, Shannon Briggs; all three are former world champions, all three remain world ranked, and all three are eminently beatable by Haye. Is there anyone else who would represent a logical and viable first Heavyweight fight for Haye?

Agree that Haye should stay well away from Frank Warren and the domestic scene, he's the undisputed C/W champ. He doesnt need either. Fight some yanks and he'll get a shot at someone then he'll have the clout to unify. I wish him all the best I liked watching him smash Macrinelli.

G K - so good to see informed, well thought out comment on this board. Namely when you are not posting.
How in the world is Haye a 'no mark' or an 'also ran'?
The guy is Ring Mag No 1 at Cruiser and stepping up in a similar way to Holyfield did. He has proved his class and now he is putting his ass on the line to fight bigger guys. To boot he is a Brit and he will be a big draw now he has Golden Boy on his side. Any true boxing fan would be getting behind this British undisputed World Champ rather than making ill-informed comments and attempting clever aphorisms.

I would like to see Hayes clean up the current crop of no hopers in the U.K. heavy weight scene now, just to get a feel of the division. He would also make some nice easy money out of it.
Then he would be able to attack the world scene with a lot more confidence.

ScouseP4P - You gotta laugh at him really, and not because he's funny either! Unfortunately, the BBC 606 boxing boards are full of chumps like this guy, who just seem to dislike the best and most promising British boxers for no real reason. Most of these chumps don't really know much about the sport of Boxing, either.

Well lets factor in hayes weight.

This means he will be on at least 3000 calories a day.
He says he will double or treble these.

So that means 6000 or 9000.

Which is probably more than ronnie coleman himself. ( google him)

If he goes through with it, expect a fat haye.

He really is an idiot.

Haye sees this year as a very important one. He wants to be seen as real heavy weight and become a HW boxer without damaging his speed. Next year he will fight Kli and I do see him winning. Yes he doesnt close as well as others, but his speed means that you cant attack him as others. He will protect his face slightly more but he is David Haye, the reason he wins is because he goes all out, uses speed and power to knock out his opponent....he doesnt wait around and dance arond the ring choosing his punches such as mayweather.

Haye v Klitchko having a laugh ain't you. Haye would get KO by the 3rd round loud mouth and id pay good money to see the fight and watch Haye get annihilated Klitchko too strong his taller 6ft 6 to haye's 6ft 3 reach is also better 215 to 204 . Another British boxer giving it large only to get KO again.

If only boxing worked like that! at the moment Haye is a nobody in the Hweight div. A fight with A F-ARSE or skelts for a world title (assuming they fluked a win against big sam) would be a lot easier to get on than a fight with a belt holder in the states...by this i mean it could be his golden ticket and make HBO/Golden Boy/Don King sit up and take note.

Curtizoo,
I think you'll fine Ronnie Coleman eats at least 12,000 calories a day at a conservative estimate without the cardiovascular training. Top level athletes, traing two and three times a day who need to maitain a large amount of lean muscle mass will need to eat in that region. Especially considering that Haye will need to maintain a good level of cardiovascular fitness.
Before you start calling people idiots I suggest you understand your topic a little better.
