Who's next for Chelsea?

Premier League Chelsea
comment on the article

After just eight months in charge, Avram Grant has been given the boot by Chelsea.

Grant reached a Carling Cup and Champions League final and also came second in the Premier League to Manchester United, but in the end that wasn't good enough to save his job at Stamford Bridge.

Support for Grant always seemed to be divided, even from day one, and despite guiding the club to their first European Cup final fans were still unsure whether the Israeli was the right choice.

So who next for Chelsea?

Dutchman Guus Hiddink
is the bookies favourite. The Russia coach is yet to agree a new contract and could be available after Euro 2008.

Roberto Mancini is not far behind. Mancini is expected to leave Inter Milan this summer after guiding the club to three successive Serie A titles.

Frank Rijkaard is out of work having parted company with Barcelona. Rijkaard knows what it takes to win the Champions League and could also change Chelsea's style of play, which would be popular with owner Roman Abramovich.

Dane Michael Laudrup is also available having resigned from his post at Spanish club Getafe in May after taking them to the Spanish Cup final and the Uefa Cup quarter-finals.

Jose Mourinho has reportedly had several 'cosy chats' with his former employer Mr Abramovich and would be a popular choice to succeed Grant.

Sven Goran Eriksson is expected to leave Manchester City this summer and has experience of both national and domestic football in England. While he was England manager he held talks with Chelsea.

Brazilian Luis Felipe Scolari is set to step down as Portugal coach after Euro 2008. He turned down the chance to coach England before Steve Mclaren was appointed and has also been linked with Manchester City more recently.

Dutchman Dick Advocaat has done wonders at current club FC Zenit Saint Petersburg and has experience of British football having coached Rangers for nearly four years.

Italian Gianfranco Zola may also be a popular choice among the Chelsea fans and is currently working with the Italian under-21 team.

Who off that list would you like to see as Chelsea manager? Any others worthy of a mention? How about former Stamford Bridge pair Mark Hughes and Didier Deschamps?

Difference is we've earned it over many many successful years.

What bull.
You earnt it from a share issue.Prior to that you spent along with the rest and then you zoomed away breaking transfer after transfer record.

Are you not embarrassed not knowing that after all it is supposed to be your club.

And just tell me how did you earn adding another 100m to your debt last year?

You are close to 1 billion in debt and that has risen every year since Glazier arrived so how is that earning?

It's called BORROWING.

"Are you not embarrassed not knowing that after all it is supposed to be your club."

I'm interested in the football pal. So should you be.

Oh I forgot, you support Chelsea - your football is dull and boring.

The business side of it is in more than capable hands. I'm not worried that the owner will get bored of watching the same dross week in, week out and pull out leaving my club in a sorry state of affairs.

You have my sympathies...

So, before you start crowing about your team, remember pride goes before a fall. In two years time, Ronaldo will disppear off to Spain, SAF will retire, Rooney will have gone backwards and the last of the old-timers (the homegrown talent) will retire or leave. Don't assume that whatever you have left will be successful...

"And ANOTHER THING! We should of been European champions.. we had more chances in the second half during the final.. it's not fair!...." (Dragged off to a padded cell by the men in white coats)..

Yeah mate, keep dreaming.. smiley

Martin Jol definitely. he was magis at Spurs and won the Carling cup-well the team that he bought won it. He is astute and will guarantee Chelsea a top four position.

How can Chelsea be taken seriously when they play mind games with their employees. Avi Grant was not even in charge for pre-season... every successful club does not chop and change mangers like fans swap designer calvins.
Roberto Mancini is the most articulate and successful coach in Italy - 3 titles at Inter Milan in a row = the sack! Surely their passing style will suit a chelsea side short on style. Get rid of Droghba and Anelka and get 2 decent front men and Chelsea will win 2 or 3 trophies next year -- but give the manager 2-3 years to build a squad worthy of becoming great. Please please do not go back to Mourinho-- noone can go backwards.

As a neutral on this one:

1. There's more long term stability at Man Utd

2. There are more trophies in the cabinet at Man Utd

3. There is a greater fan base at Man Utd

4. They play better football at Man Utd

5. Dean Windass scored a better goal at new Wembley than any player from Man Utd & Chelsea ever did laugh

Just a bit of fun guys, hope Steve Mac gets the job at the Bridge...
