Scottish Cup Final!

comment on the article

Greetings everyone!

Another day, another big game. It's the so-called business end of a wildly entertaining Scottish football season and the fun and frolics are seemingly never-ending.

First Division Queen of the South have sold out their allocation of 15,000 tickets and one end of Hampden will be festooned in black-and-white bunting while a large contingent of Rangers supporters will be making the short hop to the national stadium on the south side of Glasgow.

It's Queen's first ever major cup final so they will be right up for it while Rangers' battle weary squad will attempt to lift themselves after the crushing disappointment of being pipped to the SPL title by bitter rivals Celtic on Thursday.

Can Walter Smith's men rouse themselves for a final effort or will the Cup be heading south to sunny Dumfries with Gordon Chisholm's vibrant underdogs?

Please share all your rants and raves with me as the action unfolds...

Look at the top leagues in Holland, France, England, Spain and to a certain extent Italy. There are 2 or 3 top teams then a fairly massive gap to the rest who have little chance of winning anything other than the odd cup now and again. Scotland is not unique in this problem.
Don't you think a lot of OF fans would love a bit more of a challenge in the SPL other than it just being Rangers and Celtic all the time? But it isn't up to the OF to help your teams compete - you need to do it for yourselves. The old argument will come about the OF snatching the best players from the other SPL clubs, but again, in any walk of life if someone is going to pay you 3 or 4 times your wage for doing the same thing you're going to consider it aren't you?
And what money we do get through television is because of the OF - Setanta wouldn't touch Scotland with a barge pole if it wasn't for Rangers and Celtic.

Whats your point? Rangers aren't in a financial position to buy anyone who has a hope of playing for these clubs. And FFS have you seen the state of Kilmarnock? I've been to Kilmarnock twice this season and I'd much rather work in Govan. <laugh>

Scotland's SPL is unique in the fact only 2 teams have won the SPL in a period of 22 years!
You can study the history of any other Euro league and find the SPL is a joke. This season in Spain's La Liga, Villareal have split Real M and Barcelona and the league is pretty competitive. France at least has 4-5 teams that can potentially win their league. Holland's Eredivisie is an embarassment as PSV have dominated for a number of years but that will eventually change with at least 3-4 teams competing. Italy's SerieA is sheer quality with a good number of potential winners. For me, big business/extra finance is possibly the key to promoting competition in the SPL but look what's happened to Hearts - gotta be careful!

Well done to QoS. You gave it your best shot and to recover from 2-0 to 2-2 was almost a victory in itself. Dumfries should welcome you home as heroes.

As for Kris Boyd, I am not one of his fans. He looks overweight, slow and can't seem to jump of the ground. But, he scores goals! His first was excellent, the second proves he knows where to be when there is a chance of a goal. I wonder what would have happened if WS had played him more often?

In France Lyon have dominated the league for the last 7 seasons. In Holland PSV have dominated with only either Ajax or to a smaller extent Feyenoord making the odd challenge. In Italy since Christmas, only Inter and Roma had a chance of winning the league. In Spain, yes obviously it is a more competitive league but Real and Barca dominate.
I totally agree, extra investment is the key. But if you were a successful businessman, would you consider investing in a SPL side? Once you did your figures I would doubt it. You cant put the blame at the OFs door. I also totally agree about Hearts but it shows you how desperate teams are for extra finance when they took the money from the Lithuanians probably knowing they were taking a huge risk. In recent years, Motherwell, Hearts and Aberdeen have managed to split the OF but I cant see it happening for a while mate.

To be fair, most Rangers fans at the beginning of the season would have laughed at the concept of being disappointed by the domestic cup double. But that's the way it's turned out.

A good season overall, though. They blew it in the league, but ended the season on a huge high and were involved in some of the most memorable matches from all competitions they entered.
