Lockett on "predictable" Pavlik

Middle
comment on the article

There's an interesting interview with the ever-honest Gary Lockett on the site at news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/box...

It's from Saturday's BBC Radio Wales "The Back Page" show and you can hear the full, uncut interview at news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/box...

Lockett admits he's a huge underdog but feels he should be given more credit and reckons he's got a great chance, having worked out Pavlik's style. Thoughts?

Pavlik should beat Lockett, but the Brit is well under rated by many and can pack a punch. I will be rooting for Lockett put dont think he has the full armoury to deal with Pavlik. Hope Calzaghe fights Pavlik in the future, Pavlik would get taught a real lesson and dished a serious beating. Whilst Pavlik is predictable with limited skills he uses them to full potential.

You guys are at it again. Does liking a boxer makes one myopic? It's just incredible how far people are willing to go snidering gifted boxers for the love (is it?) of their boxer. This is no love but an epitome of cynicism.

I heard the same about how Hatton was going to punch the brag out of Mayweather and how PMB was overrated, untested and pedestrian. All this on this forum. It makes me wonder whether some do it out of sheer ignorance of the subject or whether they are trying to be provocative.

I have watched Pavlik fought in a couple of bouts. He does not only have a big heart, hard punch and good technique but also a superb fighter to watch. To deride him for being "just an ordinary boxer" is patently disingenuous. It's like saying: Marvin Hagler is just an ordinary boxer! The fact is that Pavlik is a good fighter and indeed, the best in this weight class today.

As for the Pavlik-Lockett bout, I rate Pavlik one step higher than Lockett. This is for the simple reason that his record reveals an array of world-class boxers. So he is more tested and acquainted with the big fights. Plus the fact that based on present form, baring surprise, as often happens in boxing (remember Lewis-Rahman?), Lockett is facing an uphill battle. I wish him good luck.

Pavliks the man. Not the most gifted of boxers technically but certainly one of the most exciting. I love watching him fight. Against Lockett I predict a knockout from Pavlik then he will fight Joe Calzaghi and he'll knock him out to

Agree with Lockett's assertion that KP has weaknesses, but he isn't the man to exploit them. KP has HUGE heart, and while defensively being a shambles at times, has shown that it would take an absolute thunderbolt to knock him out, while possessing a savage punch himself. Lockett has two hopes... you know the rest!

It should be a relatively easy night for Pavlik, but if he's looking to the next fight and underestimating Lockett he could be in for a rough night.

I can't see anything other than a Pavlik win, but I think Lockett will put on a good show.

Pavlik all the way. I rate him that much I even think Pavlik could (not would) beat JC, anybody agree?

I agree he certainly could beat Calzaghe...he's a big puncher so he's got a chance against anyone. Calzaghe's a top operator though, i'd expect Calzaghe to edge it but I think it would be a very close match up. One i'd really like to see!!

I dont see how Pavlik is viewed as that strong physically, he might stand out at middleweight but other than 2 wins against Taylor he hasnt done that much, and his first fight with Taylor nearly had him knocked out. JC isnt the strongest fighter but has an abundance of skills which are more than enough to see off Pavlik. Kessler and Froch would both beat Pavlik, Lockett has a chance but i doubt he will be good enough to beat Pavlik, he has the power but not sure about the same level of stamina and durability. Whilst JC is having big fights the same cant be said of Pavlik, Lockett (with all respect to him) is a relatively easy defence when considering the potential opposition. Theres always a lot made of fighters been big punchers but nobody has measured the strengths of these so its all opinionated and based on previous KO's which sometimes arent worth considering when looking at the opposition. JC appears to be on the slide but hes still too good for any SM weight out there, the good thing is we got Froch to carry on winning for us when JC retires but at the moment il just enjoy watching JC prove every1 wrong as he always has.

Ridiculous statement - see his fight with Edison Miranda. One of the best slugfests I've seen for a while!
