Safety car, A definite in monaco

Formula One
comment on the article

Looking at all the small mistakes made by the driver today, I am definetly expecting some safety car action this weekend which could cost some teams the win (McLaren)...

lots to brains here...my stupid head is spinning.

you guys forget one important thing: the human factor.

Ayrton is laughing in the grave reading you geeks.

Did he know physics? Hell no. Could he drive in the rain? Hell YES. Explain this.

Also, Hamilton has the edge when he can throw his car around - 4-wheel drifting and brushing the barriers.

-------------------------------------------

Which is no advantage at all. It's a liability.

Monaco in the wet does not reward 4 wheel drifts or brushing the barriers.

------------------------------------------

That's exactly what I meant MidosNoggin, in the dry he can do this - and that's when he has an advantage. In the wet this advantage isn't there anymore. In the wet it's anyone's race.

Well I'm praying for rain!
The result of the Monaco GP can usually be predicted from the saturday qualifying - (barring any race incidents) or by pit strategy. Unfortunately! erm

The rain should spice things up on a track where there is probably only two possible places to overtake (?)

Yeah I'm really hoping for a wet race. The Monaco GP tends to be the most boring and predictable race of the year in the dry. It would be the most exciting in the wet though. Also, I'm a Ferrari fan and the red cars usually show all the agility of an elephant around Monaco so rain might give Kimi and Felipe some hope of staving off the silver arrows

i wouldnt say its boring as generally i find F1 very interesting but with rain we would see more overtaking for definate. Otherwise it is a strategic battle only.

Button to win is 100/1
50p on that!! £1 on podium at 20/1

Good odds for a wet race if you ask me with the ever more competetive looking Button and he is a demon in the wet.

I agree with you.

This was just a little refresher for our physics and aero expert Carior.

The driver's feel for how to set the car up (for a wet race), then feel the break-away point where ever he puts the wheels on the track & react to it is what makes the diffence. Let's not forget that each of these cars behave differently because of the way they are put together.

Having said that, I am sure Ayrton would have asked his engineer(s) how fast they think he could take a given corner (assuming everything is steady-state) before the car broke away. That's the kind of thing that makes a driver like Senna stand out.

The Monaco GP is usually a great spectacle rather than a great race. Hopefully the rain will make things a little more interesting.

Dangerous without traction control, rubbish, in the turbo days, the drivers had loads more uncontrollable power, less developed tyre grip and NO traction control.
Some cars always seemed to finish at Monaco, wet or dry !

In turbocharger days Monaco track was slightly shorter by about 0.12km, cars had slick tyres and still they were about 8 seconds slower than 2008.

Looks like in the dry Ferrari is king with Massa! Another upset and another chink in the McLaren armour!
