Harry London

Eh, he made Aberdeen the best team in Europe in 1983 - on a shoestring.

His staff consisted of him, Archie Knox and the physio plus a few office bods.

Led them to wins over Bayern Munich, Real Madrid and SV Hamburg at a time when these were the best leagues in the world.

The guy is a legend just for what he did with Aberdeen.

"United are the worlds richest club, so you can not say as an individual he is a great manager,Let him win a trophy on a shoe string, that will show his true talents."

HarryLondon. Davser is right. And you can go further back.

My first ever professional game as a spectator was 1976, St.Mirren versus Dundee in the Scottish First Division. St. Mirren won 4-0, and throughout that season they played some great football and lost only two games on the way to winning the Scottish First Division. Their captain was a seventeen year old, Tony Fitzpatrick, appointed by Ferguson, and the rest of the team were in their early twenties. The shoestrings could not have been shorter. The following season St. Mirren played some fantastic football in the SPL including getting 7 points out of 8 against Celtic.

His approach to identifying and pushing youth, which started at St. Mirren, led eventually to the team of "kids" in '94, and continues today with players like Fletcher.

I also remember as a kid being grabbed by a turnstile operator for sneaking in behind my older brother. That policy was directly put in place by Ferguson, to increase gate turnover - his attention to detail raises him above the competition.

What sets Sir Alex apart is the fact that all the others have written their records. I think United have yet more to go with Sir Alex in charge. Only when he is finished can you compare him to others, but at the moment he is ahead of anyone else.

All time? Ever?

Hmmm...

Stan Cullis: Wolves won the League championship in 1954, 1958 and 1959, finished runners-up in 1950, 1955 and 1960, and came third in 1953 and 1956

Or what about Herbert Chapman?

It wasn't just the league championships, it was the fact that Arsenal as we understand it now was originally created by him in the 1930s.

ok i will begin by pointing out my allegance i am a man utd fan and have been for 29 years... so i know what its like to have crap lead your team smiley

Fergie can rightly be claimed to be one of the great managers of all time, there is no doubt about that, however i don't believe there is a single manager who can claim he is the best ever, each manager has his plus/minus points. Stein great manager commanded respect from his peers, all the liverpool managers mentioned (and pains me to say it winkeye ) their record is great, however what i haven't read so far about fergie (in fact read the opposite) is the respect he has from his fellow managers, how many times have other managers from any league (and i include teams like orient, southampton etc) say that Fergie always answers their calls, alweays has decency to return their calls if he is out, and always gives any advice if they require any.... So yeah you lot may think of him as the press make him out as this bid bag ogre etc.. (let me guess you read the sun, mirror, mail etc) but his fellow managers and footballing professions accept that he his very humble and commands respect..
I digress the fact is his record stands up against any of the forementioned managers, and yes also the great chapman (arsenal 30s) Wolves managers of the 50s Callis (i think his name was) and of course my personal favorite Sir Matt Busby (the greatest imo)... but to define the greatest you surely need to define how you are going to judge him (an example) do you judge by number of trophies but longer careers have more trophies, or number of trophies over an average of per season, how about % of games won, You see there many many variables to deciding, so you can't!!!!
Simply he is one of a very very very small band of truly great managers.

The king long live Fergie.

Ahahahahaha. People will say anything to diminish the achievements of SAF, who has confirmed himself as the greatest club manager of all time.
