Coe or Ovett?

comment on the article

Back in the late 70s, early 80s, the question was simple, were you Coe, or Ovett?

The duo enjoyed a fantastic rivalry despite rarely meeting on the track.

Today's countdown on the Olympics blog takes a brief look at their duels at the Moscow and LA Games.

Take a look here: www.bbc.co.uk/blogs/olympics... and let us know whose side you were on.

Coe. He was the polite, clean cut, well spoken boy and that went down well in our household. Ovett was likeable too but he was cocky with his waves to the crowd on the home straight and we didn't like that.

Ovett, all the way. The modern-day Alf Tupper of the track.

I remember an article written by John McVicar on the subject, in which he asked "If your life depended on it, who would you want to run for you?" he came to the same conclusion.

It was always Ovett for me. Coe is certainly one of the all time great athletes but I could never warm to him.
