BHA review is a veiled criticism of police

If you haven't read it yet, may I direct your attention to this story:

I don't know about you, but I was always very suspicious of the Fallon trial, even in its early stages.

It seemed like the jury (and the judge) were unnecessarily confused about things that they shouldn't have been bothered about, and that far too many races were implicated by the CPS, who should have focused on one or two.

Anyway, looks like the Gambling Commission will get an important new role in any future probes, while the BHA will work alongside the police - rather than handing over their evidence and then crossing their fingers.

The prosecution was embarrassing, the evidence was embarrassing. Both the authorities and the BHA need to be held responsible for incompetence.

"embarrassing" is exactly the right word... Also, if you have a judge and jury who are not aware of how Betfair works - and unless you are an actual punter it can seem incomprehensible - I don't think they understand the subtletly of "fixing" an event in sport.

It's worse in cricket, though.

A small event, for example the number of runs scored off a single over, is incredibly easy to fix, and almost impossible to detect let alone prosecute
