End Of A Historic Run

Scottish Premier Rangers

So a 19 game European season comes to an end for Rangers.

It wasn't the dream finale but to make it to the final was an achievement in itself.

Yes there have been the 'anti-football' claims but if that's the style Rangers play with and play it well then there is no reason why they shouldn't play that way.

No matter what is said about himself, staff or players, Walter Smith can be proud of some of the performances from his team like Lyon and Lisbon away.

Walter can't let the players heads drop now though as they still have a domestic treble to play for and that would be a fantastic achievement after playing so many games during a tiresome season.

klita1953 - I hope you're right - I love the look on Selic fans faces when Rangers win.

Rangers must not be the most unpopular team in the world. What a disgrace after the match. It wasn't a 'minority' of fans either , Manchester's police force was stretched, hardly a small pocket of violence! Glad you lost!

Berty2008,
I realize that responding to someone who has probably nothing but thin air between their ears is usually a waste of time but I'll try anyway. The reason I think Rangers FC whould be made to play any European home games behind closed doors next season is as follows:

First of all it would be a financial penalty.
Secondly, it would be punishment for the so called 99% "decent" fans who would not be able to attend the game. They, along with the club, are the only ones who can clean up this mess and that applies to ALL clubs with this problem. Now do you get it numb skull?

In fairness though when a player is that bad you try to forget everything about him, including how to spell his name.
-------------------

However true that logic may be, Amoruso was terrific for Rangers so it's a bit unfair to label him bad just because of his spell at Blackburn. He came to her aid on more than one occassion and even popped up at the other end to score some vital goals. He had the kind of passion that modern day players lack. Although, the Old Firm appear to be correcting that.

Our run in the Uefa cup was superb but our fans really let this side and the nation down. With the amount of fans down there and with the drinking culture we seem to live in, (I've lived in Glasgow for two years but I'm shocked at how many pubs open at 8am, who needs a drink at that time, really?) it was inevitable. The minority may have let us down but our minority was still a huge amount of people. They're not real fans, just thugs.

What really surprised me was the lack of support in the stadium by Rangers so-called fans. Every time the TV cameras switched to Rangers supporters, even when the score was still 0-0, they were quiet, anxious and watching in silence, whereas the Zenith minority were in full voice from beginning to end, chanting, waving scarfs and singing. I think perhaps that the Rangers fans are so used to success at home that they have forgotten how to encourage their team when the score is 0-0.

What a disgrace why arent rangers getting banned from europe.
We here alot abot football violence in eastern europe and like to comment on what a disgrace it is but after seeing the scences after the game its obvious we have a long way to go if i was a rangers fan i would be deeply emmbrassed with the behaviour of your fans

I speak as a total neutral with no football team allegiance north or south, just as a fotball fan Thank God justice has been done and Zenit have lifted the UEFA cup. Ranger's attitude and performances thoughout this competition has been nothing short of a disgrace and embarrassing. They have dragged back the game to neanderthal times. They truly are a dreadful side with next to no talent and NO it is not a achievement for them to have reached the final, its a disgrace that they have done so playing the type of "football" they have. Without doubt one of the worst team to have reached the final with the poorest collection of "players" imaginable!!

I note with some interest that the Rangers "fans" matched their teams disgraceful on field performances with their own virtuoso performance off the pitch and on the streets of Manchester. Also dragging back the game in the British Isles to neanderthal times.
The club must be so proud of both their team and fans.
