England

Telegraph today reports that there is a chance players may strike over a row about performance-related pay.

Interesting article, albeit brief.

I'd like to know how much they got paid for the Scotland game as that should be used to refund the travelling fans.

Let's hope Andrew gets this cleared up before MJ arrives on the scene for good.

He might not like being on the other end of a strike this time!

Interesting article, love to know how much Johnson and Andrew get ? Image rights, what image ? Do they get this for sitting on the bench or do they actually have to take part to earn this ?
All in all none of the present squad are worth a tenth of this money. The cash should go direct to their clubs who pay the wages injured or not, Newcastle and Wilkinson for example springs to mind. An England shirt should be a matter of honour not half the average wage for one game.

Performace related pay seems like a good idea, even though it is only small part of the fee that is performance related.

Provided that this is dished out as a team bonus rather than try bonus then it should provide a good steer towards team performance.

What ever is said about England, over the past few years, they certainly earn what they get, unlike their round ball sisters who earn the annual rugby wage in a week or 2.

A player strike? what a poor sport if that can happen. And it's right to be performance related, as they may play better.

Its good to hear that this has been put to bed and England can get on with what they do best, play good rugby! However, it's worth bearing in mind, this new pay deal is still miles away from what those over-paid, pre-Madonna football players get. COME ON ENGLAND!!!

Most League One football players are only earning about £30,000 a year so hardly close to the £185,000 as quoted for the England rugby players.

If you have a talent and can earn better money from football rather than rugby then good luck.
Maybe the RFU needs to look at where all that Vodafone money goes ?

It doesn't surprise me that Johnno has only just started the job and already sorted out the pay dispute between the RFU and the england stars. Johnno was on the other side of a pay dispute in 2000 and I bet he has put a lot of pressure on the accountants at the RFU to resolve this in a satisfactory manner. I think its great to have someone in a position of power who has his finger on the pulse of rugby. Johnno's no nonsense attitude is reaping rewards already.

I think it is a very sad state of affairs that we are in an era where playing for your country is now financially incentivised.

I think that £11000 for a win and £8200 for losing represents a decent pay rise from £9000 per game if you expect to win from time to time!

I never played at this level but it is a professional game so I suppose payments are fair and at least it is performance based now - I wouldn't have paid some of them a penny for some of the rubbish lately!

I see that Rowntree is now working with Ford; I was confused as to what Ford was doing before - even more so now

If the RFU can generate the income and can afford it, then why not. Players exist in a 'market'.

£185,000 for the game's top players doesn't look out of the way to me, especially when you consider what very ordinary footballers 'earn'.

I just wish Scottish players had the chance to earn the same. That's just wishful thinking. it is NOT an invitation for Nigels and Julians to brag about the size of English rugby and how crap scottish rugby is.
