Scheduling IPL 2009 will be tricky

Twenty20 India
comment on the article

Just look at the ICC calendar, its crowded. You cannot have all the top players in it.

Its Ashes year, plus Aussies play Pakistan sometime in April. Even India play non stop till may.

September looks the best bet, with Aussies winding off their Ashes tour and New Zealand their Sri Lankan tour. September would also be the end of monsoons in India and cooler temperatures.

Will it not be squeezed into late April and May again? Not sure when India return from NZ, but the rest of that period looks relatively free. Mind you that said there is the tri-series as well to consider.
September isn't crowded but it does see Australia in England for part of the month, and the very lucrative Aus v Ind ODI series in October would also have an impact. I don't see English players taking much part in the IPL again next season, but there is still a chance a more permanent slot will be found inthe calendar from 2010 that will fit in with other countries and Internationals.

It would be great if BCCI plan the IPL during India's test tour. This will give more chances for youngsters. And I'm sure people still be watching IPL than India's test matches.

IF it does happen, I think would be a really domestic affair with unselected Indian biggies and retired foreign players like Gilly, Warne, McGrath taking it forward
