This UEFA Cup Final is Bigger than Seville!

Scottish Premier Rangers
comment on the article

Everyone is talking about it.

We have convoys, battle buses, invasions of the largest travelling support (even without the famous Seville calculator) which to say the least is being given a very modest estimation.

If I remember correctly back in 03 there was a wee article on page 24 of the Sun to mention that Porto were playing but that was it.

lets have a look at the facts and see which was a better achievement...

Firstly, in 2003 neither Celtic or rangers had done anything significant in Europe for a long time so it was a huge achievement. Now we've both got past the group stages of the Champions League so these days the UEFA Cup is really the Consolation Cup.

Secondly, we did it playing football (where have I heard that before?) rangers did it with anti-football, failing to score in 3 of their 4 home games and requiring 2 penalty shoot-outs. The only goals they did score at Ipox were 2 goalkeeper fk-ups

MATCHES PLAYED (IN UEFA CUP)
Celtic 2003 - 13 matches
rangers 2008 - 8 matches

GOALS SCORED
Celtic - 28
rangers - 5

MATCHES SCORED IN
Celtic - 13/13
rangers - 3/8

Penalty shoot-outs required
Celtic - 0 / 6 rounds
rangers - 2 / 4 rounds

how a team can get to a final only scoring in 3 out of 8 games is beyond me - ANTI-FOOTBALL at its very best.

COME ON ZENIT!!!

Who cares whether there are more h*ns in Manchester than tims in Seville, they are simply not in the same class no matter what.
We may have won nothing that season but we played some brilliant football and no one complained.

That's just a joke "article". I personally travelled 8,000 miles from the west coast of America and had a great week in Spain (sans. result). The fact it was the busiest ever day at Glasgow airport says a lot.

Enjoy your day in Manchester - it'll be a sad day if that defensive mince you play gets any reward other than the mickey mouse cup.

I am sick of all the one sided commentary in this country there wasnt as much fuss whenit was celtic in 03. also what is it with all the union flags I though you were supposed to be a scottish team or is that only when you feel like it.

As you can probably see with my name im a tim. but come on tae fk how are rangers in the final by scoring so little goals and defending as much as they do. rightly so they didnie win it. seville was much bigger no.1 fans who dont suppport celtic watched the game, rangers will be lucky if half of scotland tune intae theres. I concur that it is terrific that Rangers made it to the UEFA cup final and they were not a million miles from succeeding but it is my humble contention that Celtic's achievements five years ago supersede those of Rangers this season. I believe Celtic played superior teams than Rangers (Liverpool, VFB Stuttgart, Celta Vigo, Blackburn, Boavista - who played in a similar style to Rangers) and I believe Celtic scored more goals and won more games in regulation time than Rangers. Celtic's final opponents Porto also went on to lift the Champions League trophy the next year so there is no doubt about their quality at the time especially considering who was managing them.

Haha what a joke honestly. The road to manchester was nothing compared to the road to seville.
