Marlon Samuels gets two-year ban

West Indies
comment on the article

Marlon Samuels has been banned from international cricket for two years after being found guilty of corruption.

The ICC imposed their mandatory ban after receiving the judgement of the West Indies Cricket Board following an investigation.

Samuels had been selected for the training squad ahead of the Test series against Australia but the West Indies must now do without him.

What do you think of Samuels' ban and how will the West Indies fair without him?

Nonsence_Talker,

That was uncalled for!

Coming back to Marlon Samuels, i certainly feel he was a bright talent and one person Windies will miss, but why the 2 year ban when Mark Waugh and Shane Warne who have done similar offence got away without much of a fine?

"That was uncalled for!"

Yeah, fair point. There is a certain aspect of what happened that really gets me worked up. [r. vilification.] I should try to let it go.

Warne and Waugh got off lightly. I agree on that point.

Kinda feel sorry for him, but its not like he did not know...I mean, our own Brian Lara had a finger pointed at him. Nevertheless, my opinion is that Samuels is not and never will be a loss to the Windies Team, we will do well enough without him. Should serve as a warning to others...worldwide.

Guys, there is an interesting discussion on Marlon Samuels on this MB....

http://www.cricketmatchspecial.com/forum/index.php

The problem with Samuels is what is he going to do for the next two years? At least Jimmy Adams excelled at school, did his A-Levels, and was set to start university when he received the call-up to play for the West Indies.

But as a kid, Marlon was suspended from playing for his school, Kingston College, for a year. Why? Because he wasn't attending classes!
erm
Said he was going to be a Test cricketer, and didn't need to study schoolwork....

Well, now he knows why schoolwork is important.

He has a Test average of 28.

Even if the Windies were to replace him with the late Bob Marley they wouldn't lose much.

Not strictly true.No evidence was led that Kocchar is a bookie...by his admission he is a gambler(and has a VIP box at Sharjah).Marlon gave him no useful info...merely chatted about the team...even I knew Talor and Bradshaw would open the bowling.
Marlon had known Kochhar 6 years...never knew he gambled or was a bookie
He wasnt paid but borrowed US$1200 to pay his hotel bill when his card was declined
Waugh and warne knew what they were doing and were paid

Samuels' lawyers have now appealed on the same grounds that you've mentioned, doublecentury....

The circumstancial evidence seems damning. But is it enough to make a case against him? And yes, Mark Waugh and Shane Warne seem to have got away with it, compared to the punishment levied on Marlon.
