Rocky Leaves, 2 Released!

Premier League Middlesbrough
comment on the article

Just got boro text which has confirmed Fabio has left boro after not being given a new contract. So I take it he's sorted out a deal with Sporting. Also glad to see the back of Lee Dong-Gook and Gaizka Mendieta who have been released on free transfers. Thanks for the memories Rocky and Mendi, good riddance to LDG! Also read on Boro website that Boro are trying to secure skippy for next season too. Is that a good thing or should we be looking at a new keeper coming in?

A team like Borough cannot afford to lose players like Rochemback. Especially without finding a replacement. Hit and miss he was but when he had a decent game he could be very effective. Anyway thanks for putting 8 past citeh. Well Done smiley

Why good riddance to Mendieta? Ok , maybe he's too old now but come on surely you can't just forget all that he's done for you. 2004 league cup, destroyed us in 2005 (4-1) and did quite well in the UEFA cup campaigns. Sad to see him go, i thought he was a great player.

Can somebody explain to me the reasons why we are releasing Rochemback and retaining Arca.

i think that southgate will try and make schwarzer sign on for about 1 year because its cheaper and i think southgate wants to spend a bit in the transfer market.
so when the squad is good enough he will release schwarzer then use good money to get a new keeper.

Rochemback as a player, sums up what Middlesbrough are like as a team. Totally inconsistant. Flashes of brilliance one minute, dire the next. An outstanding pass one minute, dodgy free kick given away the next.

I dont doubt his ability, but we didnt see it enough and a consistant level. I also think the style of the league fully suited him either.

But I wish him well.

Mendi? Good at first then drained the club when not playing. Simular to Ray Parlour.

LDG? Just wasnt good enough, no-one could fault his effort, but we need more than that.

Schwarz has never been a problem, it's his agent that needs a kick.
Turnbull deserves to be second choice though and Jones should be loaned out.
Lee did look promising but looks are deceiving.

You must be blind to not notice the improvement since making Arca a midfielder rather than a left back, he had a purple patch there for a while but in general he was a much better investment than Rocky.
One goal for a season by an attacking midfielder is not a good return if you figure in that our top scorer was a left winger.
His free kick was a scorcher though but he was nowhere near the quality he was at Barca.

LDG would have been funny to watch in anyone else's team but unfortunately he was in ours. Thank goodness he's finally gone.
Rochembach was never that bothered I don't think, played well when we were already winning or against a big team.

But as for (NorvernMonkey)

"Mendi? Good at first then drained the club when not playing. Simular to Ray Parlour."

Mendieta similair to Ray Parlour?!!

He was about 2000x the player of Charlie Dimmock, he'd scored in Champions League finals, I travelled to spurs away when he dragged us through to the semis of the carling cup then I saw him win the final for us with that ball through to Zenden which knocked them off their stride so early. I saw him and Zenden take apart lazio.

I saw Ray Parlour get red-faced and sweaty a few times and kick people.

We've messed mendi around, not the other way. Should have done the decent thing and released him 2 years ago so he could go play in spain before he retires.

mendita should not have been released. he is one of the best players in the boro squad. 29 million not that long ago yet he cant get in to a mediocre premiership side, which is what we are. players in the boro squad have admitted themselves that mendieta runs rings round the rest of them in training and his control and vision cant be touched. if he was given a chancew in centre midfield then we would have seen a totally different player. but boro being boro, we decide to play him right wing to compensate george boateng of all people who, in my opinion, is not fit to lace mendietas boots....typical boro

I wasnt comparing Mendi and Parlour as players, more the fact they stayed here for ages without playing and took wages for doing sweet FA.

Too much of a drain on the club
