Powell back in the running

International athletics
comment on the article

World 100m record holder Asafa Powell is back in training after missing the start of the season because of a chest muscle injury sustained in training.

The 100m is always one of the most eagerly anticipated events at any Olympic Games, so as the countdown to the Beijing Games continues, what are your feelings about how the blue riband event will be contested this year?

Has Powell got what it takes, or can Usain Bolt or Tyson Gay go faster than the fastest man on earth?

Your thoughts and opinions please ....

Given recent history, it's quite likely that at least one of these three is not clean. That thought has taken a lot of the pleasure out of watching these top athletes.

Powell will bottle it again - what a gutless choker he really is.

Out of Powell, Gay and Bolt, the most fluid sprinter is Gay...the most powerful is Powell, but Bolt is the real unknown quantity...even after his 9.76...

Powell has to overcome himself...Gay has yet to run sub-9.80 without wind assistance...Bolt...and that really was a bolt out of the blue...can he repeat that 9.76 performance ?( and there's no reason why he can't...)...

The 100m at this year's Olympics has the potential to be the greatest ever...if all were to run to their strengths and full potential...

In a perfect race - perhaps a sub-9.70 clocking!

But that would require all of them to run at their best, using each other as a spur and motivation....rather than cr*pping their pants because its the Olympic final...

Bring it on!

Gay for the double. His mental attitude will make all the difference.

"Where do you think Powell and the current crop rank along the likes of Greene, Lewis and Christie?"

The comparison is probably not a good one, because Christie failed a drug test, and Greene is under a cloud right now. And maybe Lewis protests too much!

I think Powell has learnt from his losses to Gatlin and Gay, and we'll see a better run from him at the Olympics this year. But then agian, I am the eternal optimist!

ANd yes, Gatlin has fallen by the wayside too....

Well, for starters, he hasn't tested positive at a drugs test....
erm
When is the last time a Jamaican athlete has tested positive? The current controversies surround Americans.

Until that changes, I'm pretty happy that Asafa Powell is clean....

We can also use the fact that dopers never usually have confidence issues.
