Always Look On The Bright Side of City

Premier League Manchester City
comment on the article

Sven must stay.

It was a bad day at the office on Sunday, but we still finished 9th in the league and won the Youth Cup which was a big improvement on last season.

I've been a City supporter for 40 years and while the Boro defeat was embarrassing, we have endured worse humiliations than that.

We have some great youngsters coming through so there is room for optimism.

This is what the crazy Premier League has come to. SAF was at Man Utd seven years before he won the league! SEVEN years!! That sort of patience is no longer available today. Can anyone imagine a top manager being given 7 years to get it right, today? A few bad games and you're out. Thaksin is a joke. He has no understanding of football.

As for the debacle at the Riverside, this sort of lifeless capitulation is one of the reasons I've lost interest in the Premier League. Players earning a king's ransom who can't even be bothered to break a sweat. Club loyalty is a thing of the past and many of the players are just mercenaries who couldn't give a toss about the club or its supporters.

We're played for suckers while they laugh all the way to the bank.

"hardly, give any manager in the prem the budget he had they would of done a better job. hes a joke"

Roy Keane for example???

Keane spent just as much but look at Sunderland's position.

Plus you forget (or don't know!) Sven had to spend v. quickly before the start of the season due to Taksin's wierd timing.

Who says our education system is failing? smiley

TBH mate you can't spell, construct sentences and you appear to know nothing about MCFC or football.

I could take relegation to the old second division and the league defeats to Wycombe - that happened because we weren't good enough - we were where we belonged at the time (big name or no big name).
One-cup losses to lower division teams happen - they raise their game. Every big club has at least one skeleton in their cupboard on that score.
What counts as embarrassment to me is when a team meakly capitualtes - pulls on the sky blue shirt and then sulks and doesn't try, using the convenient excuse of being de-motivated.
COBBLERS.
I can deal with defeat when I believe the lads have gone down fighting, even against a lower divison side. I cannot tolerate anyone in a blue shirt not giving 100% and I don't give a damn what's going on at managerial or borad level in that respect.

30 years ago City were one of the pack chasing Liverpool (along with clubs like Ipswich - those were the days...), excellent young set of players (Owen, Barnes, etc), 2nd in 1977, 4th in 1978, real hopes of competing for the title, cup runs, European football every season. In other words, things were looking good. Then the 78/9 season was disappointing, Swales booted Tony Book upstairs, brought back Malcolm Allison, who dismantled the squad, squandered a fortune gambling on players (Steve Daley, anyone?) and by 1983 City were out of the top flight. To my mind, there have only ever been flashes of hope of a return to the top level since (the unfulfilled hopes of the Lake/White/Hinchliffe cohort of the mid-80s, the two top-5 finishes in '91 and '92, and then this season - or at least up until a few weeks ago).

City desperately need stability. Book was constructing a squad, Reid was constructing a squad, Erikson was constructing a squad; each was building for the future; each was got rid of, and everything had to start again. I fear for City with Shinawatra. Last summer I thought maybe he'd be a Thai Abramovich; now I'm pretty convinced he's a Thai Peter Swales.

Thank heavens the soul of a club is in its supporters and not its owner: City has fantastic supporters at least.

I just want to say that I am grateful to Thaskin giving us money to spend (despite the short time to do it in) but I am certainly not grateful for any talk about getting rid of Sven. fantastic start to his 1st season in charge - if he goes there will be a good few players who will also go. Thaskin has to keep him and if he dosent he is stupid.

I think city had a great season. They played really exciting football at the start of the season, we saw some great developments of young players like johnson and ireland, the club definatly won more fans, city are on track to reaching the top 4 (9th is a good place to start), city will be playing in europe next season and of course the legendary double over united.

However the chairman is now ruining the club.

All his assets are currently frozen which could result in a smaller then expected tansfer budget next season.

Svens leaving

Most of the players will probably follow sven in leaving

so thats no money, no manager, no players.... sounds brilliant
