Nadal could lose his position as number two in ATP ranking list after Hamburg to Djokovic. A position which he held since July 2005 the longest in history.
He will lose his position if he fails to pas the quart finals and Djokovic reaches semies OR Djokovic beat him in the semis. What is the odds that this will happen pleas share your thoughts

'Federer is often compared to Tiger Woods and whereas the latter is running away with the world rankings in Golf, Feds is hanging onto his number 1 position. Does seem a little strange.'
It's amazing how quickly things change. 18 months or so ago, Woods was by no means dominant and new and established contenders were lining up to challenge. Now, there is really nobody in the frame.
Around the same time Federer was pretty much unchallenged outside clay and any loss a major shock. Now he has two players breathing down his neck and his form has slipped.
Can he do a Woods and regain his dominance? Much debated point on here. I don't expect him to return to 05/06 levels of dominance but beware the wounded animal, I expect him to win at least one GS this year, maybe even two.

I agree Federalexpress,Federer can surprise us anytime. He's lost a bit of his magic, but if that returns,Nadal and Djoko will be no match. The way Federer has thrashed opponents in the past shouldn't urge anyone to rule him out.

Why do people have to refer to djokovic as being smug etc. what is wrong with him?? He has a sense of humour which nobody else seems to have these days. He has a brilliant all round game, hence the reason he is incredibly successful for his age on all surfaces. He is always in contention in the grand slams at an age younger than both nadal and murray.

What is wrong with a guy joking around on court, are they all meant to be robots!!

Fair play djoko with your year so far. Australian Open champion and could quite easily with another slam this year.

I agree with Nuilix, if anything the threat to Fed is from the unexpected player who he underestimates/doesn't prepare for proprerly/plays out of their skin (Fish, Stepanek). As players get older this happens more often and, given that they are suprises, it's usually earlier on in tournaments which has a big effect on ranking points.

Can't see it being too much of a problem for Nadal as long as he is in the top 4, after all to win any championship you ahve to still beat the best players.

I agree with you slashermcguirk. The people who are anti Djoko seem to be missing his subtle humour. I am not a big Djoko fan but personally think that he has a very good mix of humour on the court and great tennis play. And one thing is for sure, we had better get used to seeing his face because he is going nowhere. A truely great tennis player at such a young age. Good luck to the lad, and I say the same to Murray who is hated by many already, even though without him, we would have absolutely nobody in our country carrying the flag.

Djokovic can't even get past Federer, so how should he do that against a fresh Nadal?
No2 is safe for RG.

also worth mentioning that without djokovic we would have nothing but fed vs nadal finals with the exception of a few other players. He is the only player consistently challenging them over the past year.

I think winning the australian open has given djokovic huge confidence. There are certain players that just need that break through before they can cut loose. I feel that certain players like nalbandian should have won one by now but the longer you go without it, the tougher it becomes.

Murray is very talented and has to grind it out for now. He has to be patient and his time might yet come. Look at what tsonga did in Australia, inspired tennis over the two weeks only to be outdone at the very last hurdle. Had he met anybody else, he might well have won.

Djokovic is here to stay, no doubt in my mind and could well get to number one by the end of the year. I think he could well win the US Open and has a decent outside shot at wimbledon.

This may come as a shock, but it is infact (!) more difficult to get past the No. 1 than the No. 2.
