Hamilton thrilled by 'best race'

Formula One
comment on the article

Lewis Hamilton believes he has revived his title challenge with a combative performance in the Turkish Grand Prix.

The McLaren driver said his second place behind Felipe Massa proved his team can now challenge Ferrari, who had dominated the previous three races.

"I am so thrilled with the result and I think this is the best race ever for me," said Hamilton, who cut Kimi Raikkonen's lead to seven points.

"I really think we have closed the gap to Ferrari."

Tell us what you think - is Hamilton's McLaren now good enough to allow him to fight Ferrari for the title or do Ferrari still have a decisive advantage?

i think its wide open too kev, who knows what teams will make what leaps during the season. i cant see massa doing it tho, if he gets a run on Kimi then it'll be all kimi needs to shape up and take him on. but who knows, as i have said before i think many drivers are gonna have decisive influences on the final standing by nicking points here and there from the front runners.

also looking forward to the night race, it could play havoc with tyre choices and tyre wear if the chat around the time of the moto GP night race was anything to go by.

I, ofc, hope LH wins, but it wouldnt surprise me if he still needs some time to learn more and so misses out again this year. but i reckon he'll be in with a shout.

Ron let the cat out the bag with his comments on Hamilton's strategy: he is too hard on his tyres. i.e. his driving style forced him to run a 3 stop strategy. As much as I dislike LH I conceded that he would have won had he been able to run a 2 stopper, AND made better use of the softer type that he very pulicly tried to avoid for the weekend. 'Best race' - my backside - a very risky strategy that he was lucky to get away with - just one safety car and he would have been fighting with the back markers. LH's inablilty to adapt, or 'drive around' probelems will be his Achilies heel, and he will not win the championship this season either.

lol, when he wins there is always an army of people saying "he only won cos .... - insert stoopid comment here - "

when he doesn't win you can always rely on LH haters to say "he would have won but .. -insert stoopid comment here - "

fact that he is too hard on his tyres is not a secret let outta the bag this weekend. From his earliest outings people were talking about his style, let the back step out etc, wearing tyres more than others do. he's not the first to have such a style, and he wont be the last. chances are that as he gets more experience under his belt he will drive a smoother style, but my guess is he will still harder on his tyres than most cos thats his style.

given this, it only makes his achievement more remarkable. that was not a 3 stop circuit, yet he managed to make it work well enough to get 2nd spot, and that was down to his superb drive, including taking the empty air that massa left open so pulling off a great overtaking manoeuver. combine this with the fact that he is surely gonna get better with time, rather than worse and if i was a very rich man i would buy shares in him winkeye

so yeah his style compromised his race (by one place) if you believe all those on these forums who claim to know better how to drive and set up a car, but he has time on his side, and i like his style, its fun to watch, and F1 needs fun spectacles to wipe out the memory of so many processional "races" in recent times

Totally agree, Lewis is way more exiting to watch than the others, even if he is harder on his tyres. Heikki was pretty good too, with all that overtaking. Mabe the few of us on this forum who don't have a blind and irrational hatred of Lewis and McLaren should form our own 'pack' and fight the haters off!!

icecoolewis (U9275853) - I'm a saddo because I'm not a Lewis Hamilton fan? I just gave an opinion, you don't have to agree - but resorting to name calling doesn't exactly add to the debate. There is no doubt that he has got ability - but he is not close to Raikkonen or Alonso. He will not win the title this year, and until he does he is just another driver. So icecoolewis, you continue your homoerotic fantasies about Lewis - maybe he might win a race from now 'til the end of the season, and if he does you can get all aroused and put some more boring remarks on this forum.

sry my post upset you rodders. simply put you followed the same old boring theme of blaming LH for problems that are not of his making. you have a problem with HIM because he gets a top car straight away .... i dont get it, he proved himself on the way to F1 and so impressed McMerc that they had enough confidence to put him straight into a top car. so you have a problem with him cos he's good? you have a problem with HIM cos ITV love him to bits. why is that his fault.

you see why i took issue. sry about the name calling but sorta not sorry at the same time. sry it p***** you off tho winkeye genuinely

I'm not blaming LH for ITV's coverage - the blame for that lies with ITV and the general population of this country. It's the same with all sports - we worship teams/individuals when they're doing well (Henman, Murray, England Football Team/Rugby team) and as soon as they fail we forget about them. I don't blame him for getting a top drive - but when history looks back at the top drivers surely the ones who have gained success at 'lesser' teams will be judged as the greats. The likes of Schumacher, Senna, and Prost all started out at small or struggling teams. Even Damon Hill drove for Brabham before Williams. Anyway - the main reason I don't like LH is because he drives for Maclaren, and I have always hated them. No hard feelings smiley

Didn't LH say that his victory was the best race of his career? Seems like whenever he's going to finish first or second it's going be a new "best race" comment...
