Sorry to see you goReading by bald-in-guelph (U11087367) 11 May 2008 Sorry to see you go Royals fans. You just feel away down the league over the second half of the season. Stick with your club next season and you can come back stronger. Everyone at Reading deserves a lot of credit for building a proper football club. Chairman, manager, players and fans alike. Getting to the Prem was a tremendous achievement and no mistake. Todya is a sad day for your club. Of that there is no doubt. You will get over it and get promoted next season. Your club has shown that a small club can grow and compete. That is a great achievement and you shouldn't forget it. Latest 10 commentsRead members' comments or add your own

Moono (U10440375) posted May 17, 2008 Admittedly Reading deserved to go down with the way we played for much of the season. The disappointing thing is how Pompey put in a pathetic performance against Fulham on the last day which sent us down. I accept that our level of football is someway of that of Fulhams as seen when we lost 2-0 at home and I feel we will need some serious investment in the summer to get promoted next season, which is not likely with Madejski in charge. Even more disappointing, having met Madejski recently he told me that there was £4m in the bank in January and yet Coppell kept faith with a squad that clearly were playing at the wrong level.

alfiehalford (U11525670) posted May 20, 2008 I think its nearly impossible for a relatively small club like Reading to stay in the Premier League on a regular basis, and that makes it all the more amazing that Coppell actually got them there in the first place. posted May 20, 2008 i may be an Arsenal fan, but i think Steve Coppell is one of the best manager's this country has ever produced (that has nothing to do with the nultitude of old Arsenal players he's signed [Halls, Stack, Harper, Sidwell..])

*Exiled Canary (U3675570) posted May 20, 2008 Reading were desperately unlucky that Pompey had their thoughts on other things when they met Fulham at Fratton - a match that Pompey would normally have won easily but with Wembley only a week away Fulham were allowed an unlikely triumph.

Pottermouth (U11957134) posted May 20, 2008 Stoke fan in peace.. I don't think Reading have too much to worry about next season. The player's you have are more than good enough to do really well in the CCC. You were actually slightly unlucky that Fulham put together such a good run at the end of the season. Also, did not help you're cause as Portsmouth were looking at the F.A.Cup Final. It is hard to get into the prem but, you have always tried to play good football. Really sorry to see you come down. If Steve Coppell stays you should be fine next season. As a Stoke fan for many years I am excited about our venture into the big league. I am slso a realist. Hope that like Reading we can prove a lot of people wrong and stay up. I wish Reading F.C.and the fans the best of luck.

Millers_eagle (U7475544) posted May 20, 2008 i can't believe all the nasty comments being made! As a palace fan we usually look out for Reading after Steve Coppell produced so much for us in the previous decade, however for the first guy obviously has no sympathy! All football fan should feel for others because they know how bad it is to feel relegation!

rugbytomc (U10060368) posted May 20, 2008 So Coppell has gone. Right move I say, if he couldn't keep the team up despite the poor state of the bottom half of the Premiership then they clearly need a change. A few players will go, notably Hunt, Lita and Shorey, will balance the books a bit. But i'm sure there will be money to bring a few in and I would expect Reading to compete second half of the season once they get over being relegated. No one ever comes donw then leads the table all the next season. Plus they will have to compete with the likes of Birmingham, Ipswich, Wolves QPR and Hull (if they don't go up). Derby are too weak. No one else is quite ready to push for the top. I fancy Reading to make the play-offs then it's a lottery after that. Ipswich to join them, Birmingham and Wolves to finish 1&2 next season.

rugbytomc (U10060368) posted May 20, 2008 ok ok I got it wrong, Coppell is staying-seems for once in his managerial life he is fronting up to his poor performance and will try and turn it around-do the players still have faith in him though? Comment on this article
