Change of Guard in Full Swing!

comment on the article

As Djokovic and Tsonga reached the final of the AO 2008, I said that the change of guard had taken place and the Federer-Nadal monopoly of the Grand Slam was OVER -- the very first time since AO 2005 neither Federer nor Nadal was present in the final, and therefore a new GS champion was guaranteed. In that case: Novak Djokovic.

Now, this change of guard broadened itself rapidly -- Rome 2008 is the first time since 2005 there is no participation of either Nadal or Federer in a major clay-court event(MC, Rome, RG). Futhermore, this is also the first time in a long time(with the only rare exception of Miami 2007)there is no presence of either Federer of Nadal in the AMS final -- seeing in 2007: IW(nadal), MC(Fed, Nadal), Rome(Nadal), Hamburg(Fed, Nadal), Montreal(Fed), Cincinnati(Fed), Madrid(Fed), Paris(Nadal), Shanghai(Fed).

The fact that there will be a new champion in the second most important clay-court event (Djokovic or Wawrinka)is truly remarkable and should not be unnoticed -- it signalize the speedy change of guard in its fullest swing.

"So one can hardly argue Who the best in 2008 is: Djokovic!"

The last time I checked, it is currently Sun, May 11, 2008. There are still 3 GS, and many more MS to be played in 2008. Please wait for the year to finish, before you make this kind of assertion.

Just another deluded fanboy. If any player I liked won a TMS with that cakewalk draw Screech had, I'd be embarrassed.

why are we maligning the Djoker?...give credit where it's due! he doesn't resort to gamesmanship (and neither does hewitt) that's just the way they play (granted most players don't like it)..so stop trying to heap baseless slanders on players who don't deserve them.

even nadal readily gives djoko credit for his game...going so far as to say he has to be 100% in order to have a good chance against him, why can't we do the same?

sure, he's not the most humble of players...and certainly neither is federer...but he's got a complete game in tennis today (and that includes federer). Of course, nadal is my favorite player, but i give credit where it's due..djoko's got game! learn to accept it!

He didnt face a single seeded player all week. Hardly his fault.
A trophy is a trophy.
The point is this is NOT a fluke win despite all what happened this week.
I am a bit blue now . But N.D is a proven player. G.S champion. No.3 in the world.
He is a true champion in every sense of the word. Of course it will be so very hard for some to face facts . But face them they must because they cannot be denied.

Warwinka was is really good form the whole tournament, notthing special but enough to make Djokovic earn the trophy. You'd have to be incredibly pompous to suggest that he's undeserving, anyway. Either that, or deluded. Which one is it, 'experts'?

I would say both.
Tis nothing new on here.
Its getting harder and harder to find real true Tennis fans anymore.
How can any one say his win was not deserved.
No matter how the week panned out. He can only play those he faces in the draw.
It was his chance his time and he took it.
And a lesser player would have lost to S.W today. Simple fact.
Too much over analyzation about N.D
