Premiership climax

English
comment on the article

Here we are then, just one more game left in the regular season and there is so much at stake.

At Kingsholm, we have Gloucester and Bath battling it out for top spot while elsewhere, Wasps, Sale, Harlequins and Leicester are all vying for the two remaining semi-final places.

So how you do you think today will go? Who will make the top four and how do you see the play-offs panning out?

Let us know your predications.

I, and this is hard to say as a Bath fan, think Gloucester should be champions! They have been consistently the best over the year - I know people whinge about the World Cup etc, but other clubs have to contend with this - look at Bath, and they performed well! It is a good incentive at the end BUT it seems unfair that a team who play consistently well over a season shouldnt be crowned champions. It's usually Wasps fans that whine the most, with their slow starts and their peaking at the end to get 2nd spot. That is not the idea of a league - the idea is to win it!

Glaws not a class outfit? Only dominate lower teams? Look at the last couple of weeks. The youngsters are maturing well, everyone is gelling as a unit. It's our year this year.

Lets all take a step back here. what is the point of sport?
It's entertainment. And can any1 tell me that the slight possibility of manu slipping up against wigan on sunday was more exciting than saturday? I doubt it. The play off system is also used in the super 14 for the same reason excitement. people say it's not fair but, the definition of fair is really that the same rules apply to all the same teams. All the teams know the deal at the beginning of the system. whoever can manage their squad and time their season best wins. if you want to cut games, cut out the EDF, because really who cares about it?

gloucester arent a class team and are not as good as wasps or leicester? how have we beaten both of them away from home then? and leicester quite convincingly too. if we can only beat the bottom teams how do we finish at the top end of the league year in year out?

--------------------------------------

Because unlike wasps and leicester, gloucester do not lose most of their players to international duty and therefore they have a huge advantage around the international part of every season, not to mention the injuries that players pick p playing for their country (like Lewis Moody). Glaws play well together, but they are not a top quality team (heineken cup anyone?), and this is refleceted in the number of international call ups they receive

tell you what, you do a degree course in medicine pass it with first class honours and then I'll flip a coin and tell you if you "really" passed or not. Is that fair? I think we all know the answer to that
-------------------------------

It is comments like this which make glaws fans seem so bitter and ridiculous. Flip a coin! is that how confident you are in your team's ability to win a pressure match?
Funny how the truly successful teams in both the domestic league and the heineken cup do not complain about the knock out system, they are confident in their teams ability to win when it counts!
Gloucester fans need to accept they are a good team which has alot to work on to become the finished article and stop complaining everytime they face a knock out situation, and definitely stop the dodgy analogies, cos others can play that game too, 'why not give the world cup straight to NZ, they were consistently the best team in the build up.....'

Most of the comments are influenced by club bias.
Examine the facts.
1. The Leicester v Harlequins match DID count ... for European qualification.
2. Leicester were within minutes and one score of coming 7th in the league.
3. If Leicester wins the phoney play-offs, how many true supporters of rugby will believe Leicester were the "champions" of the season?
The phoney play-offs are a separate, mini-competition for MONEY.
The "premier season" finished after 22 games.
8 clubs are now on holiday, taking an essential and well-deserved break.
Whichever club of out of 4 wins 2 more matches has won the EXTRA competition held between 4 clubs. They will submit themselves to potential injury and more burn-out prior to "summer tours".
I am not a supporter of Gloucester or Wasps - but they are champions and runner-up respectively on the "season" whatever happens in the phoney play-offs.
The winner of this post-season nonsense will gain the "Farce Cup"!!!

to the comments regarding gloucester historic lack of international quality players due to an inability to play under pressure. Can somebody please tell me then why more of the Newcastle Falcons team made the england squad, considering that they can't even play good enough rugby to reach a competition where they have to play under "pressure". Could the reason sounds like gob and shrew...rather than selection by merit?

This has been surely the best ever premiership season. The rugby premiership shows that unlike soccers prem. any team can make the move to the top. This season looked all over a few weeks ago as far as Wasps go then they really start playing,Gloucester had a few hiccups but got there in the end in a nailbiter against Bath, who've had a great season with Olle Barkley being absolutely outstanding. We had teams like Irish ,Quins and Sale all battling for play off places at one time or another.Yes we'll look back and see we've had a truly vintage season, and to make it complete wouldn't a Gloucester/Bath final at Twickenham put the cherry on the cake. The premiership bar none is the best club rugby in the world and it just keeps on improving. Thanks to all the clubs, players, coaches, groundsman, stewards and medical staff all over the country, along with the wonderful fans who make this whole game such a pleasure week in and week out.
