As the 2008 Football Championship starts up tomorrow, how do you think it will go? I might as well get the ball rolling, so here are my predictions for the matches this year...

Ulster Football Championship

Preliminary round
Antrim v Cavan: Cavan

First Round
Fermanagh v Monaghan : Fermanagh
Donegal v Derry : Derry
Tyrone v Down : Tyrone
Armagh v Cavan : Armagh

Semi Finals
Fermanagh v Derry : Derry
Tyrone v Armagh : Tyrone

Final
Derry v Tyrone : Derry

Munster Football Championship

Quarter-Finals
Limerick v Tipperary : Tipperary
Waterford v Clare : Clare

Semi-Finals
Kerry v Clare : Kerry
Cork v Tipperary : Cork

Final
Kerry v Cork : Cork

Connacht Football Championship

Quarter-Finals
New York v Leitrim : Leitrim
Galway v Roscommon : Galway
London v Sligo : Sligo

Semi-Finals
Galway v Leitrim : Galway
Mayo v Sligo : Mayo

Final
Galway v Mayo : Mayo

Leinster Football Championship

Preliminary Round
Longford v Westmeath : Westmeath
Kildare v Wicklow : Kildare
Carlow v Meath : Meath

Quarter-Finals
Laois v Kildare : Kildare
Meath v Wexford : Meath
Offaly v Westmeath : Westmeath
Dublin v Louth : Dublin

Semi Finals
Kildare v Meath : Meath
Westmeath v Dublin : Westmeath

Final
Meath v Westmeath : Meath

So I have Derry, Cork, Mayo and Meath winning the provincial titles. For what it's worth, my predictions of the four qualifiers are: Monaghan, Kerry, Dublin and Kildare. Don't ask me why I picked them.

How do you think this year will go? Predictions?

I'd say you are not a million miles out there. Don't think Cork will win Munster though as there is bound to be a hangover from the strike...That and probably the small matter of Kerry.

Meath winning Leinster! heres hoping anyway cheers

I reckon Derry will come out on top in Ulster, Galway in the West, and I just cant see past Kerry in Munster. As for the qualifier-teams, its almost too hard to say with the open draw system.

yeah, there are a few strange predictions there. I only just about predicted Galway to beat Leitrim (seriously), and Meath and Dublin to push past Wexford and Louth (suspensions). If Meath get to the Leinster semi-finals, I can't see us being beaten in Leinster after that. Westmeath beating Dublin was one of those ones I didn't expect to make, but when I thought about it, I had them winning by 2 or 3 points. Go figure.

It'd probably be better for the rest of the country if Kerry beat Cork, so they don't have to fix any problems before the serious business.

The qulaifiers are almost impossible to pick, but the ones I came up with are the teams I expect to be fairly tough to beat along the way (Tyrone beaten in the qualifiers by the mighty Kildare...). There is a Leinster bias in my predictions, but so what...

tyrone, kerry, dublin, mayo as province champions
with derry, cork, monaghan and galway in QF

tyrone-dublin final
tyrone to win

dnt understimate tyrone by any means
brian mcguigan is back and playing great football, remember 2005, poor league campaign key players returned for championship, eventual all ireland winners,

cnt look past kerry either into QF without playing a decent team
dublin always mess up, derry will lose at croke as they cant contain quality forwards on the big pitch

Well, that's one wrong so far. To fix it, I'll back Laois to beat Wicklow and still going for Meath to beat Laois.

If Kildare play like that, there is no way they'll be in the quarter finals.
