Halifax Town on verge of liquidation

Non League Halifax Town

Halifax Town appear to be heading for liquidation.

Administrator Rob Sadler told the Evening Courier today the debt to the Inland Revenue appeared insurmountable.

Initial estimates had put the amount Halifax Town owed at £500,000 - but the meeting was told the figure was around £814,000.

He said this was likely to mean the end of the club.

"The cleanest way forward is to start from the bottom and build up again debt free."

A very sad day but good for Altrincham.

We shall be back though!!

Goodbye Halifax you will be missed, you've been in the conference (now BSP) six years or more, your almost like veterans of this league. Hope you make it back up to the BSP in a few years time, who knows we may meet in the F.A. Trophy or Cup.
S.Boro v Halfax was for me always a great fixture although i never got to see and away game at the Shay. Whatever league you'll end up in though you'll definately have the biggesty stadium if you can hang on to it. Hopefully your supporters will stick with you, good luck and pray.

Commiserations, I was a bit shocked that HTFC were in danger of relegation but to do a Boston!

What surprises me is that so many clubs get away with running up tax debts.

Surely this should be sorted out early as with PAYE?

Hopefully this will act as yet another lesson to all clubs in the lower ends of the football pyramid to not compromise the future of their club and to live within their means. Altrincham although likely to avoid relegation by default are part timers and never put the future of their club in jeopardy thus probably are one of the weaker sides in the competition. Would say though that to be saved so many times is an injustice and a team from blue sqaure north/south should maybe given opportunity!! As for ourselves we are looking to set up a new team for the town of Halifax and at best be looking at having a team in the unibond league! Hope it works out well for us and hope the people of Halifax get behind us so we can start again!!!

Best thing for Halifax is to do 'an Aldershot'.
Start afresh and build your way back up from the lower leagues. Aldershot took 16 years, but have a far stronger club now than they did in 1992 when the same thing happened to them.

Although I feel sorry for Halifax, I am excited at the possibility that Altrincham will be back in the BS premier. And why shouldn't they? Altrincham is one of the few teams that is not in debt. The club is managed extremely well and over achieves with the budget it has.

Sorry to hear the news about Halifax, it really is a shame and can't imagine what it must feel like to have your club taken away from you. Hopefully someone will come in with the necessary funds to get the team going again, if not by next season, then in the very near future.
I'm sure everyone down at the Galpharm would welcome your support if you are clubless next year, and hopefully help out in any way they can.

Sorry to hear the news. Had good and bad memories at the Shay. I remember you beating us 6-0 once, and who can forget the time you beat Man City in front of around 13,000, and we had a few good battles in the Conference.

I'm surprised that it's only HTFC that are facing such a bleak future. Is it true other teams in this league are in similar financial states? Altrincham's reward for running a Club within it's meagre budget and still able to return a small profit. Sorry to see HT or any other team going to the wall, but business is business. Good luck Alty...3rd time lucky?

Any up date on this? How long before Halifax's demise is confirmed?
