Loffreda and Tigers

Leicester

Leicester Tigers have gone through the worst season they have had for a while, and despite his first season Loffreda is much to blame for much of this.

Granted he's joined half way through the season, but how on earth has he managed to affect the players so that they play badly sometimes and the general dynamics of Tigers play all but gone?
Not just that, he's let go Frank Murphy, a great sub for Ellis, he lost Abraham, a great flanker and he's lost the support of the Tigers administration. THis has become evident with the Sharks coach being approached by Tigers.

I have some sympathy for Marcello, and id let him off with the heiniken cup loss as he played little a part in it. But to lose the EDF Energy cup final and so badly, and Guinness Premiership play offs even more doubtful after a shameful loss at Newcastle, ok its his first season, but to sink Tigers THAT low is terrible. Crucial games need to be won especialy with the Tigers-Wasps game in the Premiership after the EDF Semis.

As for the players themselves, well Goode's obviously lost the general plot. What happened to Goode old consistancy? Its never really showed up on the pitch for the whole of 2008. I think its about time we had a Cipriani player, a Hernandez to really proovide a solid base of play at 10. Ellis well i believe he can keep his place cemented as his performance has been consisntant, much respect for that determined man. PLayers that have earned their place are Ellis, Varndell, Moody, Corry, Castrgiovanni, Chuter, Rabeni, Croft, Tuilagi and Geordan Murphy. I believe its just them that have earned their place. Loffreda has not.

In terms of signings im glad we have Newby, a helpful man to look after the flanking areas and No 8, we should have Flood and Hernandez to add a new dynamic attack to Tigers. And i believe the new Sharks coach should come to Tigers. I dont believe Loffreda has achieved enough to stay at Tigers.

Anyway i really would like to see the back of Loffreda. He hasn't achieved enough to stay at Tigers. Their only piece of silverware has come from a 7's tournament and i would like to see them achieve more. The Harlequins match will really tell the tide for many of the Tigers concerned, most notably Loffreda. We need to win this to stand any chance of keeping some dignity in the Tigers side. Otherwise we need to root out the main problem. The Tigers admin can choose what that is, i believe its Loffreda.

one eye, well thought through and well argued mate.
Juggler ,completely agree about first comment and the general standard lifting. It happened in 2001/2 and the same now.
If the club has to adapt as one eye says ,then we must keep the faith.
And one eye ,well said about deano ,at last.

Tuilagi and Chuter earned their places but not Johne Murphy?

Frank Murphy is not a 'great' sub for Ellis but I agree that losing Abraham is a vital blow

Approaching Muir was a request by Marcelo, he initally wanted to be backs coach and head coach, but realised he was takng on too much so asked the board to appoint a quality backs coach to help distribute the work load.

Tigers defence has been poor all season and that's Backy's fault - he's defensive coach!

Goode has never had much consistency apart from his goal kicking - and saying we need a Cipriani player, did Goode not give a wonderful display in th EDF semi opposite Cipriani and show him how a great fly half should play?

Juggler - didn't Tigers win the EDF and Guinness Premiership? Not really 4 years without anything whatsoever winning 2 and runner up in the 3rd tournament

last paragraph should read
"didn't Tigers win the EDF and Guinness Premiership last season"

I think Juggler meant the 4 year period before last season?

Tiger -I think he was being a tad sarcastic.Given the flak we usually get from a certain quarter about poor showing and no trophies (which conveniently ignore success) then no surprises.

TonyDSD - i dont mean to be rude, but if you had any idea of what was going on inside tigers right now you'd know Loffreda wasnt the problem.

Kornboy- I think i do. Ever since Loffreda has come in he has not done very much by way of making a positive diference in the team.

Yes Liecester have won against Quins, but they have qulity players which sould be performing better than they are, most notably Goode who has been inconsistand ever since Loffreda has taken over, and i believe Loffreda hs not helped Tigers this season. Who else's fault is it? Cockerill? He's been at the club long enough to know what he's doing. Loffreda well apart from coming froma different country he has to adapt to English play, an English team, an English CLUB and a very experianced and talented club. Yet he hasn't managed to carry on their performance from 2006-7 season.

So Kornboy, whats different to last season? Who's to blame for the massive difference in results eh? Whos fault is it that Leicester have struggled in every game to win.

Northampton saints for example, a great team, but in the 2005-6 season, they did well but were close to winning but not scoring enough to win the game.

Loffreda is much to blame. And im sorry Kornboy i dont mean to be rude, but try to know what your talking about.

Thanks

TonyDSD - you have no concept of the iternal politics do you?

You've made no comments about the defense leaking tries, which is Backy's responsibility. Nor any comments about the poor performances by the forwards, getting ured over, not clearing out aggressively enough and this is Cocker's job.

There's a lot of support for ML from the players but not from his other coaching staff - funily enough its the other coaching staff making comments on TV tht we're not going to make the playoffs and if we somehow do we're not good enough to win.

There's too man old boys that don't like the fact an outsider has been brought in and they're doing there best to oust him

'Goode who has been inconsistand ever since Loffreda has taken over'

Sonce Loffreda took over? Goode has been inconsistent since the first day he pulled on a pair of boots!

If you can't see what Marcello is trying to do - ok it's not working yet but they aren't the sort of changes that are easy to make in the middle of a season - then obviously you're not watching carefully enough. It's nothing to do with performance at the moment - it's all about changing the approach - and the players haven't yet come to terms with the flexibility and the spontaneity that he's trying to introduce.

Less structure is a difficult place to go to when you're used to the prescriptive Tigers style of recent years.

Tony, from your view on the outside it may seem that way, however - it is not. Loffreda is not to blaim for the back room troubles and as such the on room troubles Tigers have experienced of late.

You completely underestimate the loss of Pat Howard, Craig White and Graham Rowntree.

"most notably Goode who has been inconsistand ever since Loffreda has taken over,"

please, dont make me laugh - Goode has always been inconsistant and has been more consistant this season than the last! Note his interviews saying the faith shown in him by Marcelo has improved his Consistancy.

"Who else's fault is it? Cockerill? He's been at the club long enough to know what he's doing."

Thats an extremely insular view - the forwards have been below par this season and as such cockerill is to blame. It is also rumoured it is he who is causing some of the backroom problems at the club.

So, again - if you KNEW what was going on INSIDE the club, and not just what you see from the outside then you would NOT be blaiming Loffreda.
