Montysarmy (U12127737) posted May 29, 2008 I really think Russia have what it takes to go far in this tournment, if they can get through there first 2 games and get Arshevin back from suspention then they will have a real chance at finishing in the top 3, as he is one of the top players in todays game!!

rikkimarvin (U11202486) posted Jun 2, 2008 I've got money on Russia at 28/1 and I think personally they have a great chance to win it, more than the more favourite teams like Italy, Spain and Portugal. I mean nobody thought greece would win it 4 years ago and they did. Also got money on them 25/1 come on Russia and Greece.

JohnRobieTheCat (U11593808) posted Jun 2, 2008 Russia aren't serious contenders for the title, even with Hiddink in charge. They tend to be bad on their travels for one thing. They were awful against England at Wembley, losing 3-0 and also lost in Israel. Furthermore they won't have the advantage of that disgraceful plastic pitch at the Luzhniki stadium, which was usually flooded with water the day before a given match. Having said that they do have some good players and Hiddink has that lucky streak which all good coaches need (South Korea benefited from some dubious refereeing decisions on their way to the world cup semi-finals in 2002). Should get to the quarter-finals.

chelsea_we_trust (U11097499) posted Jun 2, 2008 Russia will be without Arshavin for their first 2 games and Pogrebnyak is a doubt as well. They were unlucky against Israel and if not for the post they wouldn't have needed a favour from Croatia. Hiddink to be honest so far hasn't got the best from this team and has experimented with various formations but if he sorts out the defence then Russia will be serious contenders. After all Zenit won the UEFA Cup with 8 Russians players, only half of which were internationals. Hiddink gets it right when it matters and if they scrape it through to the last 8 then anything can happen.
