Come on the Croats - think we're in for a real shout at this tournament. Shame about Eduardo not being there, but we got enough depth to cope. Just hope they come out fighting... biggest problem will be getting out the group, if they do that, they'll have the momentum to storm to the finals! Lovin' the prospect of destoying the germans again too!

Dear danzaiver,
keep on dreaming. The 1998 German coach was Ribbeck - even worse than the past English coach WHATSHISNAME ... The Germans had an exceptionally weak team then and Croats an exceptionally good one, no doubt. But history very seldom repeats itself. You just wait.

GerrieO - The coach was Vogts. Ribbeck came on after Vogts got canned. You're right about the talent back then, though. That was a REALLY BAD German team that lost because of a red card against a great Croatian team.

These Croats aren't as talented as their predecessors, but they've got a great coaching staff that works to hone the strengths of the roster they have. Most people probably regard this bunch as a good team but still don't truly respect their brand of soccer. Relatively speaking, they don't have a lot of individual talent, but they display more team-oriented tactics. Personally, I wouldn't be surprised to see them progress to the semifinals and demonstrate that ingenuity with what you've got can go a long way, just like the previous champs.

Oh dear GerrieO, looks like Croatia did destroy the Germans - 2 1 was a very flattering result for Germany, should've come away from that match with at least a 3 goal win. Never mind, maybe Austria will be kind and let them win!
