All hail Usain - 9.76!!!!

WOW, WOW, WOW....

Usain has always been a huge talent, possibly the most exciting male sprinter for a long time but most people thought his best race was the 200 metres, maybe even the 400 in the future. But he just ran 9.76 in Jamaica - that is incredible! Not only does it put him second all time in the 100, in my opinion he has now got to be the best combination sprinter in the world now - 9.76 100, 19.75 200.

He has got to run the 100 too in Athens now - Tyson and Asafa must be worried because Bolt is just amazing and surely his 200 P.R will be lowered.

I remember when he won the world juniors when he was 15 people said he could be the man to break MJ's 19.32 - with that sort of footspeed and his obvious strength - Beijing could see another awesome Olympic 200!

I can't wait to see him reach his full potential in the 200 and 400 - increidble athlete, congratulations!

Ignore the comments by ramz and spectacularsteve, because they are relying solely on speculation....
erm
Don't judge Jamiacan athletes by the standards of the Americans, who are constantly being involved in drug controversies, or even by the standards of Thanou of Greece, and British athletes Dwain Chambers or Chirstine Ohuruogo. When is the last time a Jamiacan athlete was implicated in drug-taking?
doh
This was a great run by Bolt! Could he be Jamaica's next Don Quarrie?

But Isabre has a point....

How will he perform when the pressure of the Olympics is on?

You "forgot"? After reading this thread you seem to all claim to be experts on PEDs?
And just where did I claim that taking PEDs was more prevelant in 100m runners?
I didnt.

Yes, 'forgot' as in didn't mention that point, seeing as noone in this thread has misconstrued all PED's to be 'the clear'. And yes, you're quite right I do know alot about performance enhancers, mainly AAS and PH's <thumbs>.

biggrin

I don't know where your argumentative tone came from as I was merely agreeing with you, and I only questioned your point "This for very obvious reasons applies to the 100m event in particular." which was what you wrote directly after saying questions will be raised when records are broken. So if you didn't imply 100m sprints, what, within that clause, were you trying to convey? erm

Not argumentative at all.
At no time had I suggested that PEDs were more likely to be taken by people taking part in the 100m event.
However more people that the public are aware of being CAUGHT on PEDs would suggest to them otherwise.

Tim400, I re-read your post a dozen times and conclude that you did not write it clearly! lol, yeah I agree there is now a pre-conception amongst spectators regarding the 100m event, but methinks that the only reason why they let other non-clean athletes to slip from public flogging is to reinforce social stereotypes. Let's face it, the fuss kicked up about Ceplak, who was on drugs, was far more discrete than any sprinter has ever had. And if I remember correct, Ceplak was allowed to return and not much of a fuss was created...

What is remarkable, is the fact that suspicion now arises with modern day athletes, but no one thinks back to the times before out of competition testing, during the era of Seb Coe and other greats, where drugs were being used by many countries and not nearly as much were able to be tested since many were new. Dianobol was the first AAS after testosterone to be formed, roughly around 1940's, and there were NO tests for it then.

If people want to raise their brow in suspicion over athletes performances now, at a time where drug testing is more advanced and stringent, then they should use what ounce of brain they have in them and start putting question marks on past performances, before out of competition testing.

Seriously.. stop arguing about drugs.. unless an athlete suddenly gets faster, gets much bigger and develops acne and personality problems then there probably not on drugs.... or there just a step ahead of the system... even some people who were obviously on drugs have never been caught because there dodging their way round it....

Drugs I suspect have a large effect on most sports, athletics only being one of them.
Whilst that is the case the discussion of this sometimes emotive subject is not going to go away however much some people would rather it did.

Didn't Ben Johnson hail from Jamaica?

And some of the Rastafarians can run.

Born in Jamaica. Never represented Jamaica. He represented Canada. He wasnt indoctrinated in Jamaica and he never took drugs in Jamaica.

Since you want to give us Ben Johnson. Why not give us Donovan Bailey and Lennox Lewis - they hailed from Jamaica. No you wont- you have a bias and one-eyed view of the world.
