Just how special is Peter Thompson?

Irish Linfield
comment on the article

For the second time in three years striker Peter Thompson was Linfield's Irish Cup final hero.

In 2006 he scored both in the 2-1 win over Glentoran and he did it again on Saturday as the Blues came from behind to beat Coleraine 2-1 in the Windsor Park showpiece.

So, that makes it three league and cup doubles in succession for David Jeffrey's all-conquering Linfield.

They had to show their battling qualities as Coleraine bossed the first half and carved out several chances.

Did the Bannsiders miss the boat by not taking those chances?

Or were Linfield worthy winners on the day?

And what can you say about Pistol Pete?

If he is not going to go to a cross-channel club, surely he is a Linfield legend in the making. What makes him so special?

And as Linfield put a third major trophy in the cabinet this season, does boss Jeffrey need to strengthen to keep the Blues ahead of the pack?

i don't care what other glenmen or other Irish league fans say but Peter Thompson IS the best striker in the league no doubt!!!

Everyone says about Hamilton and his skill etc... but Thompson has a far better attitude and works harder for the team. Thompson has pace, skill, power, can hold the ball up, great first touch, great finishing, covers every blade of grass, tracks back and defends when needed and when things aren't going his way he doesn't throw his arms up in the air and take a hissy fit, he gets on with the game and takes it bu the scruff of the neck and he is only 24!!!!

That's why Thompson is better than Mr. Hamilton!!!

It would be a great shame to see Peter Thompson leave in the summer, but....... it would be an even greater shame to see a great talent wasted.

If he gets a decent summer move to an english club in the summer, it can only better his game and then N Ireland can reap the rewards.

I hope he leaves but only to make him a even better player which can only benefit NI.

At the moment Thompson is a big fish in a very wee pond, the only way to prove how good he really is would to go to a English orScottish club. Sorry blues fans but I don't think he would be signed by a team in the premiership (English & Scottish), could do ok in the bottom half of the championship or division 1.

Unfortunately th northern irish league is about the same level as league 2 in england so his "specialness" is very relative.
