Day 15 at The Crucible

World Championship
comment on the article

So, the race for second place ends today.

OK, that's a little unfair. But after Ronnie's incredible win on Friday, it would take a David v Goliath-style miracle for there to be an outcome other than an O'Sullivan win.

So who is going to take the role of David (sounds like a BBC talent show)?

Well, it's 12-12 between David hopefuls Ali Carter and Joe Perry
They're on a break until what is essentially a best-of-nine which starts at 1930 BST.

Because the match between O'Sullivan and Stephen Hendry finished a session early, The Crucible have laid on some entertainment at 1430 BST for the paying public.

I haven't been asked to take part.

How do you think tonight will pan out?

I hope Ronnie wins, a talent like his deserves more than 2 titles. But he lacks a winning mentality, he's bottled finals in the past when he should have won so I won't be the least bit surprised if Carter ends up as champion.

It's a bit bizarre to allude to the fact that Ali Carter is not a decent player. I mean, he made a 147 for goodness' sake! This final is not at all a fore-gone conclusion.

18-14 to someone, I think.

Come on folks, some of the comments here are silly. Firstly Ali Carter is rated No 14 in the World, so he can play. He made a 147 so he can play. To say that Ronnie is going to go for lots of 147’s is a ridiculous statement. It is a World Final even 15 – 4 up he is not going to take risks. This is a two horse race where the favourite has been ridiculously over rated. Yes Ronnie is favourite to win by I will be surprised if he wins by more than four frames. How many other favourites have been turned over in the World Championship final? White, Davis (twice), Higgins etc etc. Not saying that we will be up till 12:30 am on Tuesday morning. But believe that Ronnie won’t win it till the final session. And if he dips a bit from the superb snooker he is playing at the moment, then he might even loose.

OK, Ronnie is a big favourite to win this final but nothing in sport is won on paper. I hope that this final is a close one. Carter, in my opinion needs to be worse way 10-6 behind overnight to have any chance at all. Ideally he needs to take a lead or be level.

Ronnie played at his very best in the semi - but he is inconsistent so don't just assume that he will win without needing to turn up, that is complacency of the highest order.

If Ronnie plays like he did in the semi, he will win 18-2. Otherwise, it will be very close - could even be a shock.

It's crazy to suggest that Ronnie is a very strong favourite. The media are always so quick to declare that the outcome of an event is a foregone conclusion. It's not as simple as that. It depends on how Ronnie plays in the next 2 days. If Ali is on his "A" game, it will take a very good performance from Ronnie to beat him. If Ronnie is on his "A" game, then it's true, he is a very, very strong favourite.

I can't believe people are saying it's going to be close! I honestly believe Hendry played a better semi than Carter did! If Carter continues to make the same mistakes he did against Perry, he will lose very quickly. Ronnie should sweep through this no problem.

Wow, 3-1 and Carter looks knackered reminds me of Ebdon vs Dott after Ebdon's marathon against Fu in the semi's.

Well I think Ali Carter has a tremendous chance. It is unlikely Ronnie will play consistently flawless like he did against Hendry. Futhermore, Ali has proven he can match Ronnie shot for shot in the tournament with a second 147 and a thrashing of another great champion in Shaun Murphy. I get the feeling this adrenaline fueled clash will produce a tight finale!
