THE BARRY LITMUS TEST

Premier League Aston Villa

This is going to be a very tense but none the less interesting time for Villa and it's fans.

We have reached a fait a compli have we not?

The outcome of the Barry saga is going to be dependant on his and MON's meeting regarding summer transfers.

People have been comparing Barry leaving to Yorke going to Man United but to me this is very similar to Southgate being unimpressed enough with Villas ambitions to jump ship to MiddlesVilla.

We have to wait now. Barry could be the fulcrum to a side that will make us proud if, and I say IF, MON brings in the players he AND Barry believe can make Villa great again.

But what if Barry leaves? Must we assume that his decision to leave is based on the fact that he doesn't think MON's transfer targets are good enough? OR is that just a convenient excuse?

We all saw how well Barry and Gerrard partnered up with England. Perhaps Rafa wants that? But to me, Barry has to stay at Villa. Who would replace him?

So,

1. Barry stays and we can look forward to seeing a Villa side that is going to make us proud.

2. Barry leaves which indicates MON's ambition runs to buying more Zat Knights, Carsons and Routledges and we can assume the worst. The owners may have changed but the sign on the door still reads;

"Open for business as usual."

"Blow me! How has this article managed to garner 527 comments then??!?!!! "

Like a lot of threads they seem to take on a life of their own POB...

Usually because someone takes it on another tack and/or gets into a silly spat with another poster which has little to do with the topic of the original post.

WUMS usually...ok

"Everyone can see we've got a lot of very good players here. I honestly don't believe we're that far off if we can make two or three top-class additions.

"The spine of the side is definitely there. But we know United and Chelsea are going to go out and spend millions again this summer.

"You can see what Fernando Torres added to our team this season. He made a big difference.

"No one is saying we should be spending that kind of money on every player we sign, but if we're going to mount a serious challenge for the title we have to bring in proven quality.

"I'm not just talking or thinking as a player here, but as a fan. This isn't just about what I feel, but about what the fans, the players and everyone who loves the club wants.
----------------------

The above is a quote from Stevie G.

He aswell as most LFC supporters realise that what we need is a couple of High quality players.

Already CFC linked with £16mill RB - not sure of his true worth, but there you go.

Manu linked with £50mill worth of strikers - 2 strikers

LFC linked with 1 free transfer and G Barry (not even on the other 3's radar)- this is not competing for the EPL.

I know its not all about money, and how much you pay, but the value of a player normally is an indication of his world ranking and ability, hence Torres £25mill, Voronin - Free.

We need proven quality
players - Im not that sure if Barry can step up to the mark

I'd like to know where you get off bringing my kid into this disagreement, Prawn?

You really should learn when to shut up. A man your age really should know better.

Stick to your (inaccurate) predictions. Here's one for you.

Prawn to spout mindless clap trap in next article.

Dead cert that one.

Silly Billy Prawn.

The only thing dim about me are my eyes but I can still spot a guttersnipe a mile away.

Your only cause is your own ego. Try rubbishing some other manager and his players for a change.

Is the record stuck Prawn? I'll rubbish anyone I want. Right now I want to rubbish you because you're a f£cking prat.

Don't bring my kid into anything you ever say to me again. I've kept my replies confined to you so do the same. Even better just shut up.

Just seen some heated exchanges between a certain POB and a keanonprawns. And you're both Villans? Let us just all agree on the one thing we can; MON shoul take Pool to the cleaners. Benitez is a lying disrespectul SOB. Liverpool is run by a bunch of penniless and soulless yanks (unlike our penniless- he must be because we can't seem to sign anyone these days- but soulful Lerner). Barry is a selfish get who should just hand in the transfer request so that he can spend the next few years warming the Pool bench. Meanwhile Gerrard's forehead will get smaller while his ego gets bigger.

On a final point Barry deserves the boos; there are ways of handling things, and then there is blindly listening to your snake in the grass agent who simply wants to get his commission from any possible transfer. We can't be seen to be weak on this matter- if we truly have the aspirations we claim to then we have to stand firm. It might put off certain mercenaries like Berger from signing for us, but hopefully that will only attract those who actually want to play here. Then we might stop buying some of the rubbish that we have in the pre-O'Neil era. And we can keep this team ethic that we have built and move on to bigger and better things.

Oh, and lastly Liverpool fans are deluded arrogant whelps who have no respect for other teams.
