Who will make the GB badminton team?

comment on the article

The qualifying period for the Olympic badminton tournament is now over.

And the Badminton World Federation will use their rankings to invite players to the Beijing tournament in August.

There is space for 38 men, 38 women and 16 pairs in the doubles and mixed doubles.

Athens silver medal winners Nathan Robertson and Gail Emms are sixth in the world and likely to go, as are current European champions Anthony Clark and Donna Kellogg, who are two places lower down the rankings.

Tracey Hallam is 14th in the world single's rankings and is also set to feature.

But the team will not be revealed until 22 May, leaving you three weeks to debate who should be on it...

I know it would be hard on Gail Emms, in her final Olympics, but should GB be even considering Robertson/ Emms for the Olympic Mixed Doubles Team ? - with only 12 weeks to go, and Robertson to be out of training for 6 weeks due to an operation on his ankle, the chances of them being on form is slim. Perhaps it's time to give some of the new blood a go. Gail would still be in the Womens Doubles. I know it's a tough call but Team GB need to pick using their minds and not their hearts.

I think that Gail Emms has the best chance, she has scored 50 million points for the mexican shooting team

Robertson/clark/smith
Emms/Kellog/Hallam

Does this make robertson & clark the mens double team for the team event??

Always thought that britain norm had a different team other than the two mixed players.

Perhaps our mens doubles were not seeded highly enough to qualify ?

There is no team event in the Olympics and none of the British mens' doubles pairs were ranked high enough to qualify for the individual event.

I dunno, Andrew Smith is quality but not as good as Gareth Jones. He's world class and is getting better tournament by tournament. Smith will have a fight on his hands when he play Jones next month..
