Eriksson To Be Sacked - Absolutely Crazy

Premier League Manchester City

Eriksson has confirmed that Thaksin has told him he will no longer be in charge of city next season. I'm a Man Utd fan but I still have alot of sympathy for City fans and Sven in this instance. It's asbolutely crazy, I'm shocked. Although City have slumped slightly 9th is certainly not a disasterous first season as manager particularily considering City's placings in recent years. In my opinion he's done a good job, and admitedly that's not something I would have expected to be saying at the start of the season.

Though it's highly unlikely it's still possible that City could finish 6th, one place from a Uefa Cup spot, and even if they don't four points from a Uefa cup spot - hardly a poor season.
Managers need time, but in this case he hasn't even done anything wrong, how does Thaksin think the next manager will feel knowing he must vastly exceed the team's progression made this season. He's adding a huge ammount of unneeded pressure and expectation.

Apparently and not surprisingly the City players have reacted angrily, only a few days ago Richards was saying (in his bbc sport column) that it would be crazy to talk of sacking Eriksson.

I still can't get my head around this and I'm a Man Utd fan.

Man Utd fan in peace.

This decision is beyond belief. He's certainly the best manager City have had in an incredibly long time. If City want Champions League football, they'll need to wait at least 4 years and then still only hope they can scrape 4th place from a sometimes unconvincing Liverpool side. And that's only if they get Everton out of the way too.

Long story short. Champions League football for City? No chance. Especially not now.

Man City can still win a UEFA Cup place, since England have topped the UEFA Fair Play league. City are the best placed team to take that extra UEFA Cup spot.

Would Eriksson be allowed to stay if City did get to UEFA Cup football? Would he even want to?

I doubt it.

i think the turning point was the fulham game. 2-0 up with 20 minutes to go and they blew it but, i still think sven should have had another season like grant in my opinion

Its sheer lunacy. Im slightly disappointed in Hughes taking it on. Obviously he is very ambitious and thinks he can break into the top 4 fairly quickly, but i wouldn't want to be working under someone as erratic as Thaksin.

Next year i dont think City will finish about the top 4, Spurs or Everton. Even if they manage to finish above the rest, will that be enough? They will still have to compete with tough teams like Portsmouth and Newcastle. Thaksin will have to wise up or Hughes will be out the door come the end of next season as well.

Re: Gunning for the top (formerly Walcott for England)

Absolutly ludicrous.

Soon all clubs will be like this with all these foriegn owners. There is a trend starting to emerge. Glad gooners are still english owned

=====================================

Arsenal English owned? ROFL. Now I’ve heard it all. laughlaughlaugh Your largest shareholders are as follows:

Danny Fizman (Belgian) - 24.1% of shares
Alisher Usmanov (Russian) & Farha Moshiri (Iranian) - 24% of shares
Nina Bracewell-Smith (Indian) - 15.9% of shares
Stan Kroenke (USA) - 12.2% of shares

Silly little boy, doesn’t even know who owns his club! doh

We're never gonna win out ever again but I'm pleased we have a chairman like Steve Gibson the club in a way fans can still identify with, like trying to nurture local young talent and not to risk the club's finances and supporters money with 'fat' contracts for unmotivated former star players
