** Cristiano Ronaldo named PFA POTY **

Premier League Manchester United
comment on the article

No surprise to see Manchester United's talismanic figure scooping the award, fully deserved.

Well done to Fabregas for winning the Young Player award.

The Premiership Team of the Year is as follows:
David James (Portsmouth)
Bacary Sagna (Arsenal)
Rio Ferdinand (Man Utd)
Nemanja Vidic (Man Utd)
Gael Clichy (Arsenal)
Steven Gerrard (Liverpool)
Cesc Fabregas (Arsenal)
Cristiano Ronaldo (Man Utd)
Ashley Young (Aston Villa)
Emmanuel Adebayor (Arsenal)
Fernando Torres (Liverpool)

"I think that Gerrard is overated by liverpool fans and this is probably accepted by the public because he is english."

Gerrard this season, 21 goals, over 10 assists.

I'll stick with over-rated Gerrard over those far superior players who somehow, probably due to English bias, manage to create and score less thanks.

He hasn't even played to his best this season.

As much as I dislike the scousers, Gerrard is the heartbeat of the team and could probably walk into most club sides in the world.
Ronaldo has been head and shoulders above the rest this season, but over the last 2 games Messi has shown what a skilled player he is (although not good enough to unlock Rio & co winkeye)

gerrard plays for 10 minutes each game when teams are tired adn gets most of his goals in the last 10 minutes. The story of him being world class is a myth

Im so glad Young is in the team he really deserves it. I just hope the top 4 keep their hands off him. He is the future of our team and possibly one of the 5 players who could make England great again.

On performances and contribution I’d go with:

James – The fact that everything is against him (age, ‘smaller’ team (sorry!), being English!) he’s been outstanding. No contest.

Clichy – Evra runs close, but the style of this lad is awesome
Rio – One of his best seasons, and now looks leagues ahead of any other English CB
Dunne – The start of his season justifies his inclusion here
Sagna – Although G.Johnson would run him close if he could find more consistency

Ronaldo – Can’t deny it (unfortunately!)
Gerrard – Another great season for his club
Essien – I get the feeling you could play a team of Essiens…
Young – This guy is the dogs. Great season for him and Villa

Torres – Needed no time at all to adjust
Santa Cruz – Inspirational

Nearly list:

Rooney
Flamini
Vidic
Barry

I don't understand how Ronaldo didn't win young player of the year as well - apparently he qualifies for this - does any else find this a ridiculous situation whereby you can be acclaimed the best player in the league overall but not the best young player?

Gerrard included because:

a) His name.
b) Sympathy vote.

gerrard has had a poor season compared to his high standards. exactly the same as last year where essien was left out again just for a stupid reputation of a scouser

I find it hard to believe all the people who think Gerrard is overated.

His determination, hunger and poise make him a legend before we even talk about his football skill.

Anyone who claims Gerrard is overated, please write to your teams respective managers and ask them if they would find a place for Gerrard in their team. I think you will find that whoever the manager is and which ever team they manage they would love to Have Gerrard as part of their first team.

If you really think Gerrard is overated you are either Jealous, clueless, or a supporter of Everton, Man Utd or Chelsea...

Gerrard overated!!!! What planet do these people come from

Redbrynner,

It is ridiculous comments like this:

"His determination, hunger and poise make him a legend before we even talk about his football skill."

that make a lot of people laugh at Gerrard and his supporters.

Gerrard seemingly has mental abilities that even mythological Greek legends would be proud of.

Oh, and as for Gerrard's supposed football 'skill' then why did the former head of Lilleshall recently say "Steven Gerrard cannot even pass a football properly."

Steven Gerrard=good Premiership player and not much more. His real worth in today's market is about £12 million.
