So it wasn't the money then, Brad....?

Just heard an interview with Brad Hodge on GMR, wherein he attempted to answer questions about the reasons he'd opted to join the IPL, without mentioning money.

It was like a perverse variation on the "Yes / No" game.....

GMR: So why'd you do it, Brad?

BH: It's a good opportunity to develop as a player.

GMR: Any other reasons?

BH: Erm,...It's an exciting opportunity to help promote this format of the game.

GMR: Anything else?

BH: Erm...not really...

GMR: Not the huge wad of cash they threw your way, then?

BH: Erm,... got to go...plane to catch!

--------------------------------------------------

Now don't get me wrong; I don't blame the guy. 5 weeks of smashing the ball about infront of thousands of adoring fans and a load of cash to boot sounds appealing and I'd probably have done the same but, I'd have more respect for him if he'd just come out and say;

"Yeah, it's all about the cash", instead of all this twaddle about promoting the game and his own personal development...

Any thoughts?

Teams win the Championship. Teams that have team spirit and gel well together.
Having uncommitted players is bad for team spirit and moral.

I hope he doesn't come back.

What a fantastic acquisition Yousuf is for Lancs. He's one of the best batsmen in the world and should score some vital runs in the coming weeks. It's just a shame we only have him while Hodge is enjoying his pay day!

Welcome to Lancashire Mohammad, and good luck.

Blessing in disguise. Laxman came in for Hodge last season and was much better and Yousuf sounds similar.

I feel this Was a case of "Justice Delayed but not Denied" for 'Yousuf' as well as for 'Lancashire'

i wud have been ok with hodge going if he had signed for the IPL before the season started and was honest about his reasons for going, nothing wrong ith him wanting to make money, instead of pretending its for anything else. i agree that Yousef is a quality signing and better than Hodge
long term i think hodge will lose out as he has only been signed by the IPL short term to cover ricky pontings absence. while lancs and particularly LAW hav shown there clear disapointment in leaving them in the lurch like this. i'd be surprised if they sign him up again next year!!

Lucky Lancs!

Yousuf is a genius batsmen, if he has a good few weeks he can give Lancs a moral boost!

brad hodge should have stated the real reasons for going to IPL but i was only saying to a lancs fan the other week how suprised i was at the fact he had not been invited sooner. surley the lancs board should have picked up on this earlier.

It is funny how times have changed. The way cricketers used to scramble to find a place in county cricket matches is over. County cricket is picking up players who are left over. Yousuf played in ICL and cannot play in IPL. So he is now playing county just because he "cannot" play IPL. In a few more years, county cricket will have only english players and international players who cannot play in IPL or ICL.

very very true. ICL,IPL. going to kill the game with the money just like the english football premier league. then when we get an EPL we can all see the monster we have created that is twenty20

I would prefer Yousef to Hodge, he man is a class act while Hodge hasn't been as good as I expected. Hopefully Hodge will go an Australian C team tour around Malaysia and Yousef can stay at Lancashire.
