Sooo, whos gonna win it? Federer v. Nadal

So, its the third straight year that these two have met in the final of Monte Carlo. Is the third time the charm? Will Federer beat Nadal? If he does, it will certainly be a very VERY good sign for him at Roland Garros. Bouncing back from his first match nightmare (two points from defeat...twice!), he has defeated Monfils (eh..), Nalbandian (who had only let Robredo win one game the day before), and Djokovic (world number 3). If he beats Nadal, Federers confidence should be excellent for the next few tourneys.

Personally, I think if Federer can get the opening set, he has a great chance. If he loses it, it'll be tough, but Federer did beat Nadal last year in Hamburg after losing the first set 6-2, winning the next two sets 2 and 0. Nadal has looked very tough, but the thing Federer has going for him is that Nadal has had a cakewalk, while Federer is match tough. Maybe it'll overwhelm Nadal, maybe it won't, idk. Nadals still the man to beat, so hopefully it'll be a good one =)

Federer just imploded after he was 4-0 up in the second set. Nadal hardly hit any winners (10 in the entire match) but Federer contrived to throw point after point away to let Nadal back in. Federer had 22 winners - many in the first four games of the second set - but had 44 unforced errors (Nadal only had 15). Quite frankly it was horrible to watch. Saying that Nadal produced a "stunning comeback" just doesn't square with what I witnessed.

You can't judge a match by statistics and winners aren't the only sign of playing well - especially on clay. It's not a coincidence that Federer always hits a high number of "unforced errors" against Nadal it has a lot to do with Nadal playing well and forcinghim into mistakes.

I'm a Nadal fan, but I like Federer a lot. I'm sorry, but suggesting that Nadal won that second set just because of Federer's errors is not a fair reflection of what happened.

While this match was definitely close, I think Rome 2006 was a better final. Roger actually had match points in that one!

"You can't judge a match by statistics and winners aren't the only sign of playing well - especially on clay." -- Rafa fan

Actually, I was judging it with my eyes. Did you actually watch the match? Federer just lost the plot after playing beautifuly to get the double-break. He turned many winning points into losing ones by blowing the final shot. You just can't afford to do that against someone like Nadal whose powers of retrieval are second-to-none.

Your comments regarding Federer are totally out of line, They are both excellent players And I see no need for your ignorant remarks. Tennis is a sport and not a name calling contest.

Federer played very well at times but was unlucky at key points such as Nadal's passing shot clipping the net tape so Federer missed it. Federer should have won that second being 4-0 up but lost his concentration. A positive for Federer, as Peter Fleming said, is that he was calm throughout and was willing to trade ground strokes with Nadal. Roger's forehand was brilliant, he really made use of the angles.

He will continue to get chances against Rafa, but needs to take them to prevail at the French Open.
