RIP Pat Lampard

comment on the article

Frank Lampard will miss Chelsea's Premier League showdown against Manchester United on Saturday following the death of his mother from pneumonia.

The 29-year-old midfielder sat out the games against Wigan and Everton and may not take part in Wednesday's Champions League semi-final with Liverpool.

"The club will be offering all the support it can to Frank and his family at this time," read a statement.

Pat Lampard, 58, was the wife of West Ham legend Frank Sr.

Her sister is married to Portsmouth manager Harry Redknapp.

She was admitted to Whipps Cross Hospital in north-east London on 14 April.

A statement issued by Lampard's agent said: "Frank and his family would like to thank all the people that have inundated them with wishes of support.

"Frank would also like to acknowledge and say thank you for compassion shown to him by Chelsea manager Avram Grant and all staff at Chelsea FC during what has been a terribly traumatic period for him and his family."

Lampard rushed away from Stamford Bridge shortly before kick-off against Wigan when he heard about his mother's illness and did not make the trip to Everton.

He resumed training ahead of the Champions League semi-final, first leg at Anfield and played in the 1-1 draw on Tuesday after his mother's condition appeared to improve, only for it to deteriorate again.

Chelsea's statement continued: "Pat was a very familiar face to many people at Chelsea FC.

"Her unswerving support for her son's career was evident at virtually every game that Frank participated in regardless of where it was being played.

"She would always be there to watch him with Frank's dad. Pat will be deeply missed by everyone at Chelsea."

Liverpool manager Rafael Benitez passed on his condolences to Lampard and his family.

"It is difficult for him, especially before these important games," said the Spaniard.

"He has our sympathy because for him this is very, very bad news. Some of our players are mates with him from the (England) national team, so everyone feels the same."

hopefully i speak for everybody when i show my condolences to Lamps and his family. Hopefully he can come back this season and dedicate some goals to his mother.

RIP

Many years ago Frank snr used to play Football and cricket against our school. Top man who worked hard to achieve all he did.
We were all big hammers fans and when young Frank came along we were overjoyed.
RIP Pat, our thoughts and prayers are with the Lampard and Redknapp families at this time.

To the Man U fan. If you are really sorry about Frank Lampards situation, why apologise then call him Fat Frank. You are not in the least bit funny or sorry and as a person who lost my mother 9 months ago in similar circumstnces I know what he is going through. I hope that somehow Frank knows that football isn't important at a time like this, and that he supports his dad as I am having to support mine in these troubled times.

May The Lord look after her now Frank

and if i felt like it i could beat you with an even worse life of misery cos mine is filled with it. People still have nicknames and no death can stop you being called them. everyone knows frank is not fat, yet hes called it, its an ironic nickname. The comment wasnt meant to sound sarcastic yet alot of people took it that way that is what im apologising for.

Condolences to Frank and his father at this difficult time. Behind every great footballer is a great family, and it's fair to say Pat was a brillant mother and wife. Best wishes.

Manufan87 you're still rude and vile calling Frank fat, you're not sorry. And Frodo_MUFC with the comments I read about Frank it's easy to see you all in the same light.
The football did the talking, we won and you lost. We did it for Frank and the title.
My thoughts are with him and his family at this difficult time. Hope to have you back soon xxx

I lost my mum very suddenly 3 months ago and know exactly how Frank must be feeling, my heart truely goes out to his family at this time, nothing in the world can take away the pain but the comfort that people are thinking of you helps a little. RIP Mrs Lampard

To the Man Utd fan. I think you need to grow up. When you write comments you need to think how folk will take them. Why is it those of us who aren't Chelsea fans like myself can offer genuine sympathy, while you make "Witty" comments. You say something offensive re Lampard then apologise then say "If you could beat me you would". I'm sorry you say your life is in a mess. And I do not wish such things on you and that you sort yourself out.

R.I.P Mrs Lampard

IF Chelsea win the league then It will be with great sadness from my behalf as a Man Utd fan, HOWEVER, it would be a fitting momento to Frank in memory to his mum. God Bless Frank.
