Malcolm Speed, the ICC chief executive, has been put on paid leave until his contract runs out on July 4.

In a brief statement, David Morgan, the ICC's president-elect, said: "This ... is the result of a fundamental breakdown in the relationship between the CEO and a number of board members, including the president, over a variety of issues that include Zimbabwe.

I haven't much time for Speed either but I think this time at least he was trying to do the right thing.
And we can talk about 'chump change' and what difference would it make and compartmentalise all we want to try and avoid any link between a cricket audit and Mugabe.
Or we can realise some things are more important than cricket.

This is a non event.

More to worry about in Zimbabwe than cricket - if the country survives then so will the game.

Not trying to compartmentalise it. Just saying that the influence of ICC over Mugabe is overblown to say the least. I agree it is politics as usual for this disgraceful stance by the ICC. But that is the case world wide. Case in point, Beijing and the olympics.

It might only be chump change going to ZC, but where is this chump change going?

Well, absolutely disgusting behaviour from the ICC. Someone doesn't agree with their covering up of Zimbabwe's financial "irregularities", so they get rid of him.

Slow hand claps all round.

I agree he was a disgrace to cricket, his inaction over australia and also setting no rule on zimbabwe about how teams should act has bought alot of disruption. His inability to organise a decent set of umpires, sticking with over 60+'s who arent physically fit and able to act w/o bringing their prejudicies into the game, is also a big failure.

Good ridance

indians still bleating over the australian summer? get over it you lost, now maybe your thoughts should turn towards those influential sub continent ICC figures who are protecting corrupt figures in zimbabwean cricket.

What's this rubbish?

Speed's inaction over Australia? What action was required?

Setting no rule on Zimbabwe? You idiot, any rules are set by a vote of the ICC, they aren't made by the Chief Executive. You fool. India and Ray Mali prevented any chance of sucha rule being brought in.

Organise a decent of umpires? The ICC umpiring panel is in charge of that. By the way, do you happen to know of any umpires who should be on there but aren't? Can you give us their names? Nope, I didn't think so.

Physically fit? Shep was the last portly umpire that I know of and he's retired.

Act without bringing their prejudices into the game? The umpires do a very difficult job mostly very well. As for prejudice, tendulkarisgod you are nothing but a hypocrite.

Fact as well as opinion - this will never catch on you know.

Thanks for defending umpires - much more difficult than actually playing.
