McCarthy signs new Blackburn deal

Premier League Blackburn Rovers
comment on the article

Blackburn Rovers striker Benni McCarthy has signed a new three-year deal that means he is contracted to the club until the summer of 2011.

The 30-year-old South Africa striker has scored 35 goals in 87 games for Rovers since he joined them from Porto in a £2.5m move in July 2006.

McCarthy was Blackburn's top scorer last season, with 24 goals, and has added another 11 this term.

He had been in negotiations over a new contract for a number of weeks.

Rovers boss Mark Hughes had been pretty keen to tie McCarthy down - but what do you think about keeping him?

Its good for Roberts too - if he ends up stayin that is, nothinlike some good healthy competition for that partnership spot with Roque! Hopefully will keep Roberts in the decent form he is in at present, if only he could be as good at the early stage of the season as he is at the closing stages...

Does anyone here really think bentley will be playing for us next season? I'd love him to stay but i'm resigned to him leaving for a bigger club. By bigger club i don't mean him doing a Lucash and going to WestHam, i'm thinking more European giant! I can understand him wanting to play in the champions league and to be honest a player of his ability should be playing in the CL with the best players in the world. Sure he'll still have England chances playing regularly for us but will we really be able to take him to the next level and help him realise his FULL potential? For the sake of argument say we were to sell in the summer, how much do you think we should be looking to get for him?

The general idea is that he'll be on our books for another year before he leaves.

I'm pretty sure he will, but at least if he does leave he still has 3 years on his contract with (as far as I'm aware) no release clause, so we can make any potential suiters £15million plus.

yeah those champions league winning strikers are just queing up to sign for us aren't they mate.

Granted he's past his best. So on that basis i'm guessing that if by some miracle Hughes managed to get Scholes then you'd be opposed to that too? Given that he is obviously past his best and all..

Get a grip mate, McCarthy is a world class striker and we are lucky to have him.
