Spanish Grand Prix - Practice 1

Formula One

Ferrari dominate by some distance despite several excursions by Massa. BMW seem particularly disappointingly far off the pace of Ferrari. And is there a possible surprise in the making from Renault with good runs from both drivers? Finally, good to see Super Aguri on the time sheet although hugely disadvantaged by not testing in Barcelona a fortnight ago.

I am under no illusion that the outcome of Friday's practice mean that that is where the my lads will finish on Sunday. I am not that stupid! Just to see an encouraging improvement in performance and confidence is good enough for me at the moment. How very childish some of the comments are on this forum.

Morning all, I break the virginity of the discussion today!!!!!!! lol. I am not a LH fun but people I think are on his case a bit unfairly. Look at Kimi's last season, he had many setbacks early on but still managed to conquer. As for set-ups etc, for sure FA may have had a lot to do with the team's success last season, though most of you may not admit it....

Looking at the last two practice sessions it seems McLaren either have terrible pace or are just sand bagging. I would bet on the latter personally, but who knows. I cant see anyone challenging the Ferrari's for pole though which is a shame however it should be a good battle between BMW and McLaren for the 2nd row. My prediction:-

1. Raikkonen
2. Massa
3. Hamilton
4. Kubica
5. Kovalainen
6. Heidfeld
7. Trulli
8. Alonso
9. Webber
10. Button

McLaren should learn from the English premiership team - PORTSMOUTH - having fallen out with the mastermind of their 'success' they went cap-in-hand to lure back Harry Redknapp their manager - we all know Lewis Hamilton stood on the shoulders of Alonso last season (car set up, team cheating, etc.) - with Alonso gone, Hamilton is crudely exposed - i say it's time to go on bended knees to bring back Fernando

as ABBA would sing: CAN YOU HEAR THE DRUMS FERNANDOOOOOOO - i bet my eye teeth Hamilton can hear it, loud and clear as his season falls apart so early - how sad

My word, Phantom, you really do have an issue with Mr. Hamilton (or is it with McLaren or just the British in general, perhaps?)

OK, so you're a Ferrari fan and their F1 outfit is superbly run and has dominated the sport for many years. It's amazing the advantage - in terms of cutting-edge engineering, combined with driver talent - that all those $$$ millions a year from their super-rich sugar daddy gets them..!

Anyway, I'm sure that, following a couple of bad races early on, Lewis Hamilton - the 22-year-old who last year completed the most successful rookie season in F1 history - has all but thrown in the towel for 2008. That's the kind of bloke he is. laugh

Perhaps if you had a more open mind you'd gain a little perspective for these events- especially at such an early stage in the season.
But I guess that will require having a mind of your own in the first place...doh

we all knew how good Kimi was before he joined Ferrari - but it was Ferrari that elevated his potential to the level of a world beater making him a world champion - HAMILTON WOULD ROT AT McLAREN for 3 key reasons:

* McLaren lack the class and competitive edge to produce consistently contemporary champions
* Hamilton has an air of the infantile about him - he requires a highly professional setup such as only Ferrari can offer to actualise his undoubted potential
* there are 'rumours' of Alonso joining Ferrari soon - if that happens Hamilton would not get a decent drive until he's washed-up - he might end up permanently locked in the Stirling Moss mode i.e. all sizzle no sausage - remember Stirling Moss has no title to his name - none ever

I'M OFFERING hAMILTON FREE ADVICE: JUMP SHIP NOW

Ok Phantom, I now suspect your'e merely in full WUM mode - and you're clearly a master!

Certainly there will always be a chance that the 'all sizzle no sausage' gods might conspire to ensure LH never wins a hooter. But please remember, your boy Kimi only pipped the rookie up the a** by one measly point last season (i.e. less than a 1% performance superiority) and LH is getting older and more experienced.

Alonso heading to Ferrari? Perhaps in the 2010 season.

But LH will get a competitive car from McLaren for at least 2-3 more seasons. Based on what I've seen of LH last year and the way F1 works, I'll make a rash prediction that he's good enough to win 2-4 Championship titles over a 12 year career.

Schrodinger's Beretta - i applaud your optimism when you opine that Hamilton is good enough to win 2-4 titles over a 12 yr career - no one is good enough or has a divine right to win anything - the point is HAMILTON WONT WIN ANYTHING WITH McLAREN - that team hasn't got a world-beating production line - Mika Hakinnen was a 'fluke' similar in proportion to Blackburn Rovers winning the English Premiership title several seasons ago - in fact in 2006 season, McLaren forgot how to win races - that changed of course in 2007 as a direct result of 'stealing' Ferrari data - after shamelessly protesting their innocence, they've now publicly apologised, i'm happy to forgive and move on - IF HAMILTON SPENDS HIS ENTIRE CAREER AT McLAREN, HE'D HAVE NO TITLES TO PUT ON THE TABLE WHEN THE F1 HALL OF FAME IS BUILT

now, that would be a very sad story for someone so talented - HAMILTON risks ending up WASHED-UP like those 2 Monte Carlo 'playboys'- Jenson Button and David Coulthard - is it me or a mere coincidence that they're all BRITISH and choose to remain in a cosy British bubble rather than compete for the best drive (offered by Ferrari)

anyone who is pragmatic and loves Hamilton would reach one conclusion: thank RON for all he's done for his career and JUMP SHIP

in business, you've gotta move before your competitors or they'd eat your lunch - ALONSO WOULD EAT HAMILTON'S LUNCH IF HE JOINED FERRARI WHILE LEWIS IS LEFT TO ROT AT McLAREN

p.s.>> the excellent English striker Wayne Rooney had to dump his childhood club EVERTON for MAN UTD to fulfill his potential and win titles
