Derby County have revealed that number two Stan Ternent will leave Pride Park to take the managerial reins at League One side Huddersfield Town.

The 61-year-old had been assisting Rams boss Paul Jewell following his arrival in November, but has been given permission to leave to return to full-time management.

Ternent has previously managed Blackpool, Hull City, Bury, Burnley and Gillingham during a 20-year managerial career.

Meanwhile, Rams chairman Adam Pearson has revealed that Jewell has already secured a new number two, who will start work at the Championship-bound club this week.

"I would like to thank Stan Ternent for the hard work he has put in for Derby County and the support he has given Paul Jewell," he told the club's official website.

"We have given him permission to join Huddersfield Town as their manager. We have not sought any compensation from Huddersfield.

"We already have a new assistant lined up and ready to start work tomorrow (Friday).

"I am very excited about the future of the coaching staff moving forward, as is Paul Jewell.

"The new assistant has a proven pedigree and a top-class record and is someone well known to Paul."

could the new assistant manager be Chris Hutchings?

I don't get it. Derby has a great fan base and belong in the premiership. Shouldn't they be searching for a name coach, home or abroad, with a proven successful track record?
These two might work well together but they didn't exactly set the world on fire at Wigan!

Undoubtably some Derby fans will be able to explain this move.

Assuming it's Chris Hutchings, why didn't Paul Jewell bring him in when he was appointed in November or when Wigan sacked Hutchings?

Pisces - I bet it's a contractual condition of Hutching's pay off or something similar - I did think that this would happen in the summer, but seeing as we're down I guess he's been given the go-ahead...

The bit about not asking for compo for Ternent made me laugh - we could have got 50p surely ? laugh

Is the matching up of two "good" men who have had marginal success as managers the right step to get Derby County back into the Premiership next year?

Always thought Stan ternent was guy who advised on tactics, there in lies the answer for the second half of season. Bring back Billy and back him, never put a foot wrong,Just never given the money to spend. more wins than Jewell. I hope Paul proves me wrong but I give him a month if we have a bad start, and then with more compensation payouts we will just about struggle to retain championship status. Dont promise instant promotion, great if we get it but should build our expectations so high, after the season we have just had.

Don't ever come into the premiership again. Teams like you who don't care devalue the whole competition.

I am sure Bristol Rovers would set the premier league alight! doh

Derby are a fantastic club, their fans still turning up in their thousands despite already being relegated.

BassettGas,
You are naive. Anyone with a semblance of intelligence would realise that it is money which has devalued the PL as a competition, leading to a greater disparity between the elite, who can go out and buy players for £20m, and sides in the lower half of the division.

Maybe, but I'm not holding my breath, football should take a lesson from rugby league by bringing in salary caps etc, to make a predictable league more competitive.

I wish supporters like you would think before posting.
