Will Tottenham sell King?

Tottenham Hotspur
by Paul Fletcher (U1816326) 18 April 2008
comment on the article

Tottenham head coach Juande Ramos reckons he knows which players he wants to keep at the club and has hinted that Ledley King may not be one of them.

"After five or six months here I know the squad really well and
what they are capable of," said Ramos.

And when asked whether the injury prone King would continue as captain next season, Ramos added: "We'll have to see what state he is in next season.

"We'll have to wait and see whether he is here next season."

Would selling King be a big mistake? Or does Ramos need someone who is fully fit all the time?

After almost SIX MONTHS, he still doesnt know what the squad is capable of?? Oh dear...I see WHOLESALE changes coming up!

He said: "After five or six months here I know the squad really well and what they are capable of.

"I'm not going to discover now anything new about a group of players I have been with for a long time and know perfectly well."

so clearly he DOES know

I am not a spurs fan but think that Ledley is one of the best defenders in the Premier League. But over the last couple of seasons he has spent a long time on the treatment table. I know that all spurs fans would want him to stay but if another club comes in with a good offer surely it would be better to sell him and bring in another top class defender who will be there for most of the season.

A bit late but I've only just logged into the site. I dearly hope to see Ledley back in a spurs shirt next year, maybe not for every game but use him sparingly in important games like this year. Whenever he has come back from injury its always as if he's never been away. For those of you who suggest we employ Ledley as a defensive coach I have to say that you can't coach what Ledley has got - natural talent in abundance - but I support your views on keeping him at the club. Maybe we could employ him as 'loyalty coach' and he could teach some of the team a thing or two?

To sell him he has to prove his fitness nobody will spend the type of money he is worth on a player who is either not going to play or retire. So if hes fit enough to sell why the hell would we want to sell.Until the time comes when we are told he will never be fit enough to compete in the PL we keep him. When fit he still one of the top CB in PL.

Keep Ledley but only if we get at least half a season from him. I'm more worried about Bent, huge transfer fee, massive salary and all he does week in week out is warm the bench. Why on earth did we sign him, we have nothing left to play for and still Ramos won't start him. When he does come on all they do is whack 40 yard passes at him. The club should have worked harder at keeping Defoe, especially as it looks like Berbatov may be deciding to jump ship.

If he is fit he is still good enough to play for England so why sell??? IF his knee is knackered then he wont be able to play for anyone. Sell him.No way.Best defender in England on his day and if he and Woodgate stay fit they will be a formidable apiring.Sell your havin a tin bath...

When Ledley and Woodgate are both fit, they could be contenders for the best centre defenders in the league at their prime.
They have a relationship like Ferdinand and Vidic, play better when they are next to each other.
