Tough challenge for Read

County championship Nottinghamshire
comment on the article
Nottinghamshire

Nottinghamshire made one of the highest profile signings at the end of last season by capturing Stuart Broad.

But they are unlikely to see much of him or fellow England paceman Ryan Sidebottom as they look to consolidate after promotion in the Championship.

Much of their hopes will depend on key batsmen Mark Wagh and David Hussey, as well as new captain Chris Read.

Read's men will do well to survive in the top flight and challenge for one of the limited-overs trophies.

What do you think?

Exciting times yes, but if our bowlers are playing for England where does that leave us?? I think that we will have a chance to do well when he have a full squad, but when England duty comes around we could struggle. All of the team will need to perform and Chris Read will need to lead by example and score big this season. I for one am looking forward to our season, it has potential to be good.

It is vital for us that Shreck stays fit (maybe even not use him in one day matches, as he is our ptential strike bowler with Sid and Broad probably on England duty much of the Summer), Pattinson is a good signing, and Voges finds his feet and confidence.

The experience of Read and Swann is vital, and I feel with Wagh, Voges, Patel and Read we have a strong middle order. But I have worries with the bowling, all honest lads, but, but well let's just hope...........

Is Cr1cketnut talking about Notts when he says the batting is weak, but the bowling strong? I am in th US at present so what's happened to change the team so much?

I'm not a Notts fan, lifelong Essex man. But trust me you guys have signed an absolute gem in Alex Hales. You wont have seen him yet but if he gets a run in the 1sts he WILL score runs. Has done it at every level he's played at and is real quality. Will play for England within 3 years. I'm not his Dad (!) but have played club cricket with him as a youngster and he really is the real thing. Wait, see and enjoy

Its worrying to think that some people think our batting is strong, but the bowling week, while others think its vice versa! I think its just important we can find a little bit of consistency. We will probably get stuffed in a few games but it is just important that we win enough games, especially at home, to keep us up. I think most fans will be content with us just staying up, particularly with our bowlers being on England duty.

Looking at what's happening in Canterbury at the moment, I don't think Notts are taking the negative press too seriously. smiley

Agree with PlatinumEssexBoy. Alex Hales will be a star. Have seen him play at various levels from U15 to Minor Counties and MCCYC. Hits the ball hard and straight and with unbelievable timing. May get a look in with Notts brittle top order!. Once he is in there will be no looking back and will be in the England team within 5 years.

What do I think? I think it's the same sort of idle London-blinkered article writing off Notts I read at the beginning of every season.
