The show starts at 02:00 and ends at 05:00, so what time soes the fight start, i've looked everywhere but no where states the exact time. (probably because they want you to watch the undercard so you don't just set your alarm for the main event??!)

Problem is i've just started drinking. If the fight starts at 04:00 as previously stated, that means i'll have 5 AND A HALF HOURS OF DRINKING! BLOODY YANKS!

I'll no doubt get so slaughtered that i'll forget the result and have to look it up on 606 in the morning!

I'll have to plan it better for the Calzaghe fight.

Too many mismatches hence boring and often sad outcomes but promoters dont care they want the cash.
America has 300 million plus plenty of poor Mexicans and Blacks some Asians but few whites of note really.
Britain ditto on a smaller scale 1/5 size etc.
If we match up one dough bag with another dough bag ok but not mismatching as someone gets hurt big time
Last night Manny Steward had a no hoper fight in welter wt class who got hammered real bad but Manny kept saying move in on him which in trying to do with no skilled defense he got cut up and ko ed shame on all connected with this crap.

I agree that Gomez was no match for Cotto, same as Manfredo and Calzaghe.

But that is exactly what happens when you create a show like The Contender, (backed by boxing legend Sugar Ray leonard and Hollywood great Sly Stallone) and merge it with the sport of boxing. Gomez was obviously in a league below, but then the counter to that is that at least he bought in more viewers to boxing which had been on an obvious decline until the last 18 moths or so.

All these purists who keep harping on about the good ol days, need to realise we are living in today, and if they really care about the sport, have to come up with viable options to improve the sports credibility.

That is exactly what Golden Boy Promotions is doing and unfortunately The Contender failed to do so, but kudos for trying. Any other ideas??

I really dont see why most people are blaming Woods for the defeat, he truly thought he would win and he gave it his best shot but it just wasnot good enough. I think we should give credit to Tarver, with his superior skills he made the fight look very easy even when he was tiring (Now I see why he is called the magic man). He completely outclassed, outthought, outmanouvered and outfought Clinton.
This fight also brings to light how good and clever Hopkins is as a boxer, just look at how ordinary he made Tarver look and I am convinced that the same fate awaits JC next week. It would be so one-sided and easy that many would find it hard to believe that they are watching the same 44-0 Joe Calzaghe. By next week it would be 44-1.

I personally don't see Tarver or Woods as exceptionally gifted boxers, exceptionally lucky maybe.

Tarver's claim to fame is beating an old and maybe over-rated Roy Jones, and Woods's claim to fame is being among the mix, hardly what I would call two lengends of the ring.

Next week however is a whole different kettle of fish. For me, Calzaghe is the obvious winner. The only problem as far as I can see, is Calzaghe bottling it as it is his first fight in the US. Hopkins is a natural Middleweight and Calzaghe a natural Super Middleweight, so I don't really see this as a step-up in weight class, like Hatton-Mayweather.

Bottom line, Calzaghe should easily win if he fought with the same confidence he took on Lacy and Kessler with. If he sees Bernard Hopkins as a superstar legend, that will define his career, Joe could be in for a long night!

papadavidson:- your wrong there is "NOTHING WORSE THAN A DEFEATED FIGHTER GIVING EXCUSES OR LACKING DIGNITY IN DEFEAT" CW got beaten, was a world champion Britain should be grateful for that. Arrogance is great when you WIN...BUT VERY COMICAL WHEN YOU LOOSE. A cuban boxer once said "i beat a guy twice" but each time he still kept thinking he was the best with his post fight comments...after i realised my punches had made him loose his sensibilities"...classic reminds me of a certain working class lad from Manchester..oh RH who went across the pond and got exposed. Clinton Woods may have lost but he can tell his grand children i was a world champion once. How many of us on here have won even any world titles let alone being able to to keep up with a boxer's training regime. I hope BH beats JC so his DELUSIONAL dad Enzo can come up with more LEGENDARY excuses that makes you think he is senile!!!!!

Britain is loosing champions because again people are so gullible in this country ( still behind the Americans i think )that they easily think British fighters have the will power to overcome anyone. Will power, blood and thunder is all well and good but you need talent.
I think after next weekend Britain wil be down to just two Witter and Haye.....happy days smiley Then again most on here might not class them as British.....hmmm

I'm desperately disappointed for Clint but at the end of the day he has no-one to blame but himself!

Armin Van Buuren, the #1 DJ in the World, was over in Northern Ireland playing in my favourite nightclub last night and I didn't stumble into the house 'til 6am so missed the fight but checked the result on skysports.com (it wasn't up on BBC Sport). Did many of you watch it? From reading Sky and BBC's reports it seems that Tarver was there for the taking, gasping for breath in between rounds, but that Clint was too lazy and didn't do enough to win...Tarver's not the same fighter he was when he beat Roy Jones Jr in 2004 and 2005. doh

An easy tenner laying Woods on this one; I think there can be little doubt, one of the least-impressive "world champions" in living memory.

Woods is one of the most one-dimensional and just-plain-beatable pros in the trade today. Four gold stars to his management, taking a mediocre club fighter and somehow shoe-horning him into a top 10 world ranking. Ridiculous.

Walk away Clinton - there's nothing but another half-dozen batterings for you in that company.

To be honest I backed Woods for this one and for good reason, he should have been able outwork Tarver easily, but in the biggest fight of his career he bottled it.

He didn't look like the same Woods that fought three epics against Glen Johnson.

I was also disappointed to see Johnson got robbed against Dawson.

Woods should pack it in, he's fallen out of love with the sport, Tarver should as well, at least he can retire as champion as at 39 he has nothing to trade on except the respect other fighters give him.

The way Woods fought, I thought he was drugged or maybe he left his fight in the gym. I knew Tarver would win and he did too, but looked pathetic anyway.
