County preview 2008 - Glamorgan

Glamorgan
comment on the article

There will be plenty to talk about at the redeveloped Swalec Stadium - formerly Sophia Gardens - which will host the first Ashes Test in 2009.

But before his compatriots arrive next year, ex-Australia paceman Jason Gillespie will look to fill the gap left by Simon Jones' move to Worcestershire.

Jamie Dalrymple and Matthew Wood are the other new recruits this year.

Fans will also keep an eye on promising teenage paceman James Harris, who has been tipped for a bright future.

But can he avoid the dreaded "second season syndrome" which has affected so many talented young bowlers? And what are the Welsh county's chances of promotion in either competition?

Next home grown England player?

I guess that means he will be constantly overlooked, finally get thrown into the mix, fail to impress in his one or two games, and get discarded?

I think that Dizzy will more than compensate for the loss of Simon Jones.

No disrespect to Simon, but although he played a huge part in the 2005 Ashes success, we never saw the best of him in Glamorgan colours. Wish him well in his new career with Worcestershire though!

Simon Jones,as brunel says,what gap? 4 matches 1/290.
I have concerns about our batting but we just cannot be as bad as last year.

Take the 50/1 about "Glammy" we will be promoted this year counties will find it difficult to bowl us out twice and we have to take 320 wickets, synopsis,Gillespie 70,Harris 60,Harrison 60,Shantry 40,Waters 40,Croft 60,Cosker 30,Dalrymple 30 and others, not an impossible scenario exept that is too many so take 10 of each, fanciful maybe but not impossible.

The pressure is less,I don't know who will attain a 1000 runs and neither does anyone else, let's just hope that 3 or 4 of them do,at least we have alternatives and I still think 50 to 1 each way, that's 10 to 1 for second or third is fair value, only two to go up though.

I think the season could be quite promising for Glam.

With the new signings strength in depth should be found, and hopefully after his enforced rest Powell will show the class he clearly has.

Beyond the signings lets not forget the Harrisons coming back to fitness, along with Wharfy.

Plently of Welsh talent in the U19's if they can develop a settled XI for Champ and One-day cricket they could push promotion. Its not a million miles from 0 to hero in Div 2!

ithink it would be nice to see Galmorgan climb of the bottom of the CC2 table this year, it cant be anice to be there, and they have brought in good players so i can see a resurgence here, which would be quite nice to see actually!
