Who will win the Masters?

Masters

So, here it is then. We've weathered the winter storms and battled the blizzards and emerged at the start of a glorious golfing spring.

The dazzling white sand in the bunkers, the vivid blue water in the lakes, lush green all around and technicolour flowers everywhere.

It must be Masters time. Welcome to the 72nd event at the Augusta National.

All the pre-match talk is of Tiger Woods and the fabled Grand Slam - winning all four majors in the same year.

It's all great fun. And Woods is very good, as we all know. But in reality, achieving the feat is about 92 light years away.

To even win one major is a massive accomplishment - just ask Monty.

So saying that Woods will win the Grand Slam before a tee shot has been despatched in the first of the year's four majors is golfballs.

It's a bit disrespecful to the rest of them as well. Sure, Tiger's head and shoulders above anyone else, but there will be 93 guys, well, give or take (Sorry Sandy, Gary, Tommy et al), who are desperate to win the Masters.

And then there'll be even more at the US Open, Open and USPGA all busting a gut to grab some major glory. So enough GS chat for now.

Woods could still win the Masters, though. Phil Mickelson's turning into some kind of Augusta specialist with two wins in four, while Ernie Els and Geoff Ogilvy are also fancied.

England's Justin Rose will spearhead the European challenge, with Padraig Harrington turning up to his first Masters as a major champion.

Like the Grand National, we could make a case for a dozen or so. It's just picking the right ones that's the difficult bit.

So, who do you think will win? And who else is set to have a good week?

What odds for Tiger to miss the cut? Don't see it happening but would be a laugh.

No mention of Justin Rose yet? Surely good each way bet?

The Great White Shark Norman is a bit more of a mouthful than Tiger Woods though!?!?!

Anyway ones a nickname (they've had all there life) and ones somebodies brand name for there company its different.

Tiger to win, and hopefully Rose in close contention his game is so solid he looks ready to win a major.

my bets are Furyk, Harrington, Appleby, Kaymer and Westwood all e/w of course. Tiger wil NOT win it cos he has a mental block on 17 and 18. Even when he won against Dimarco after miracle birdie on 16 he went on to bogey 17 and 18.

"Once again, we embark upon another Grand Slam tournament with the media only talking about one player, Eldrick Woods. I refuse to call him "Tiger", as this is only his nickname. After all, although Greg Norman was known as "The Great White Shark", he was never called Great White Shark Norman, so why do we refer to Mr Woods as Tiger Woods?"

Cos that's what he goes by? I suspect you're easily irritated if this is an issue in your life RoathRaver. Actually I should refuse to refer to you as RoathRaver as it's probably not the name on your birth cert!
